A report says Rockstar is planning to put Grand Theft Auto VI on PC in the first quarter of 2027, a few months after the game lands on consoles on 19 November 2026.

As GamesBeat first reported, citing four anonymous industry sources, the PC version is pencilled in for the first three months of 2027. Rockstar did not respond before the report was published, and nothing is official: Grand Theft Auto VI is still listed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with a PC release at an unannounced date.

What it means if you were about to buy a console

For Australian players without a current console, the reported window changes the maths. Buy a PS5 or an Xbox Series X before 19 November and you play it day one. Wait for PC, on this unconfirmed plan, and the wait is months rather than the year-plus Rockstar ports have historically taken. There is no Australian price or local detail attached to any of this, because none of it is announced.

Sony has already been positioning around the launch, saying Grand Theft Auto VI plays best on PS5 Pro. In the United States, GameStop has reportedly been selling used PS5 Pro consoles at US$500 above the price of a new one to catch launch hype.

There is also no shortcut through the cloud. Xbox clarified this month that Grand Theft Auto VI will not stream to PC via Xbox Cloud Gaming, after earlier reports suggested Microsoft had secured exclusive streaming rights. Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said at the time that the excitement around the pairing had led to some misreporting. So a Game Pass subscription on a decent laptop is not a way to play it in November.

A shorter gap than Rockstar’s history

The reported window would be the shortest console-to-PC turnaround Rockstar has managed. Grand Theft Auto V hit consoles on 17 September 2013 and PC on 14 April 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2 went from 26 October 2018 on consoles to 5 November 2019 on PC, a gap of about a year.

There is some circumstantial support for an earlier PC date. A Take-Two earnings call in May flagged one platform extension title, a port of an existing game, for the financial year ending 31 March 2027, which lines up with the reported window. That is an inference drawn from the company’s own guidance rather than a confirmation, and Take-Two has not said which game it refers to.

The report itself carries the usual caveat: the port’s progress is unknown and it could be delayed internally like anything else at the studio. For now the only hard dates stand: consoles on 19 November 2026, PC officially at no date at all.
