PLOT​

KINGDOM HEARTS IV follows protagonist Sora and some familiar characters as they journey through the mysterious city of Quadratum. Sora will once again journey to various worlds, where new figures cross his path and new powers awaken in this next chapter. Meanwhile, Donald and Goofy visit the underworld in search of clues about Sora.

Who is the director?
Tetsuya Nomura.

Who's writing this game?
Tetsuya Nomura, Masaru Oka, Akiko Ishibashi.

What platforms will the game be available on?
Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and PC.

Are there Disney worlds in the game?
Yes. Quadratum is the base of the game but Sora will travel from Quadratum to Disney worlds and return. His look will change depending on the style of world he visits.

Has English voice acting started?
No official confirmation however Hades voice actor James Woods revealed in May he had been in the studio to record for Hades, and confirmed in June that he has been involved with Kingdom Hearts 4.

Will the game be newcomer friendly?
The game is a sequel to Kingdom Hearts 3 + Re Mind and will deal with the situations established at the end of that game. The game also features a variety of characters from Kingdom Hearts Union x, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, and Kingdom Hearts Dark Road.

However, the reason that Akiko Ishibashi was hired to write for Kingdom Hearts 4 was to make the story more simple to follow and newcomer friendly.

-- Why did you ask Ishibashi [to join you]?
Nomura: The biggest reason is because of how she factors into approaching new users, from the perspective of someone who has no experience with the KH series. She did a great job of integrating the characters' values and principles in NEO: The World Ends With You and other works, and I thought her way of thinking would be well-suited for KH.

Will characters from Final Fantasy and The World Ends With You be in this game?
Characters from Final Fantasy and The World Ends With You have not yet been confirmed to be in the game. Nomura has said that this is a different world to the Shibuya that the characters of TWEWY come from, but it hasn't been completely ruled out.

When can we expect to play it?
This has not yet been confirmed by Square Enix. However, since English voice recording is now underway and the game just received its second trailer in over 1500 days, it likely won't be too much more of a wait. Nomura also released a message for the 24th anniversary saying they are working hard on towards the 25th anniversary of the series, suggesting a 2027 release.

Will Riku, Kairi, Roxas, Axel, Aqua, Terra, Ventus, whoever my favourite character be appear in the game?
None of these characters are as of yet confirmed. Riku set off to Quadratum at the end of Melody of Memory so he very likely will have a presence in the game. There will be intermissions where you play as other characters, such as Mickey Mouse, so it is likely characters from previous games will be an appearance.

Did you expect characters from games like Birth By Sleep and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days to become so popular? Do you feel like their stories are complete, or we can expect more of these characters to pop up in Kingdom Hearts IV?

I really didn't think that the characters from these two titles would become this popular. I had thought that players wanted to see more of characters like Sora or Riku. It was kind of unexpected that the characters from these two titles were so well received. As far as including them or continuing their story in Kingdom Hearts IV … The story for Kingdom Hearts IV is focused more on Sora's disappearance. I'm not quite sure if there will be room to really explore the other characters' stories as much, but I'm aware and the team is aware that these characters are very popular and people want to see more of them. So, if possible, it would be great to include more of them or continue to share more of their story in future opportunities.

If I want to jump into the series for the first time before Kingdom Hearts 4, what's the best way to play the previous games in the series / what's the order of the games?
The best way to play the series is via one of the numerous collections released.

On PS4 / Xbox One / Epic Games Store / Steam, the collection that has every game excluding Melody of Memory is called KINGDOM HEARTS INTEGRUM MASTERPIECE or
KINGDOM HEARTS All-In-One Package (the name changes based on regional availability).

On PS5 / Xbox Series X / Switch 2, the collection that has every game excluding Melody of Memory is called KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III].
