Without a shadow of a doubt, Grand Theft Auto 6 is the most anticipated game not just of 2026, but of the entire decade – although plenty of people are just as excited about the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, too.
And with Rockstar's next blockbuster getting closer to launch, players are naturally wondering where they'll be able to play it. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are the only confirmed platforms so far (my sympathies to you, PC players), but what about the Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo's latest console has already shown that it can handle some pretty demanding games, so the idea of taking GTA's next big adventure on the go isn't entirely outlandish. Unfortunately, if you were hoping Nintendo would finally shed some light on the possibility, the company's president has a pretty simple answer: you'll have to ask someone else.
Nintendo Leaves GTA 6 on Switch 2 Up to Rockstar
In a recent interview with Variety, Devon Pritchard, president of Nintendo of America, was asked about the possibility of GTA 6 coming to the Switch 2. Rather than confirming whether a port is in the works or offering any hints about potential discussions, Pritchard pointed toward the companies responsible for the game.
"That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time," Pritchard said.
In other words, Nintendo isn't making any promises just yet – and it sounds like the company might be open to the idea, but the decision isn't entirely up to it. The response doesn't confirm that Rockstar is considering a Switch 2 version, but it doesn't rule one out, either. For now, anyone hoping to see Vice City on Nintendo's latest console will have to wait for Take-Two and Rockstar to say something more concrete.

And that's probably not the answer many fans (myself included, since I'd love to play Jason and Lucia's story wherever I go) were hoping for. With GTA 6 shaping up to be one of the biggest game releases in years, the possibility of playing it on a portable system is an exciting prospect. Of course, making that happen is another matter entirely.
It's worth remembering that Nintendo has also been working to attract more major third-party releases to the platform. Microsoft's Activision, for example, is bringing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Switch 2 this fall, marking a significant return for the franchise on Nintendo consoles after more than a decade away – something hardly anyone saw coming!
That doesn't necessarily tell us anything about Rockstar's plans, though. Each game presents its own technical and business challenges, and Nintendo's willingness to welcome major third-party releases doesn't mean every publisher will follow suit.
For now, Pritchard's comments leave the door open without giving fans much reason to expect an announcement anytime soon. If a Switch 2 version of GTA 6 is in the cards, Rockstar and Take-Two will have to be the ones to tell us. Until then, Nintendo seems happy to leave that particular question in someone else's hands.
