Halo: Burn the Road Home Follows a Colony Still Recovering From War

Criterion’s survivors are struggling to rebuild, and resentment toward the Unified Earth Government is growing. When separatists attack a reconstruction convoy and steal essential equipment, Colonial Administration Authority Marshal Imani Havel begins investigating.

And that theft leads her toward a much larger conspiracy. Earth has gone silent, the planet’s defenses are stretched thin, and mysterious operatives from off-world are moving behind the scenes.

Havel’s search takes her through abandoned industrial sites and an orbital graveyard filled with human and Covenant warships. It’s a promising setting for a Halo story, with the wreckage of the previous conflict surrounding people who are still living with its consequences.

The synopsis pairs Havel with a battered UNSC assault force as they try to uncover the enemy’s plan. Their limited resources and lack of Spartan support give the story an immediate sense of vulnerability.

Kenneth Peters Brings His Halo Lore Experience to the Novella

Peters has already helped shape several major Halo reference books. His credits include coauthoring Halo Mythos and the 2022 Halo Encyclopedia, alongside serving as lead writer for Halo: Warfleet.

So, that background makes the novella’s focus on colonial history, military forces, and derelict warships especially interesting. Burn the Road Home gives him room to explore those elements through a character caught in a crisis.

The reveal also follows the Canon Fodder farewell that featured new Zeta Halo artwork.

Halo: Burn the Road Home Release Date and Formats

Halo Studios says the novella will arrive later in 2027. Simon & Schuster’s current listing gives July 13, 2027, with Gallery Books publishing the 128-page paperback.

The US paperback listing is priced at $17, with ebook and unabridged audio download formats also listed. As of writing, July 13 is the publisher’s listed date, while the studio’s announcement sticks to the broader 2027 window.
