Retiering a few glorified crafting materials, forgotten or weak items
The idea of this post is there are many items that are not used, either because they are crafting ingredients you immediately craft with once you get them, you acquire them too late for them to provide much use, they are weak for their tier or nobody remembers them.
I think moving these items earlier in progression could make them much more useful, viable, and even fun
Ram Rune
It's such a cool accessory, it's a shame it's locked to post-Skeletron. By that time you have a lot of accessories that compete with this, and it's not as useful since pre-HM is almost over
The way it's currently obtained feels too free + It clogs up the inventory. There's so many secondary items in the Dungeon chest loot pool - the other day I got a Blue Moon, Shadow Key and Silver Bracer all from one chest, it just feels wrong to have so many rewards in one chest, especially when you're swimming in chests in the Dungeon already
Ideas to change it's obtainability:
Secondary item in Marble, Granite, Rich Mohagany, and maybe Mushroom chests - these chests have identical loot to the Gold Chests (Mushroom chests is the only one with extra items - a vanity set and minecart) and they don't differentiate themselves in any way - Why not make them be a little bit more unique by giving them secondary items like this one?
Or make it a common Traveling Merchant item (same tier as the PDA accessories, most paintings, dynasty wood, etc)
Speaking of the Travelling Merchant...
Presserator
This is an Uncommon item he sells which places actuators automatically.
It's useless without the Mechanic in the first place.
Just move it to her
And this being an Uncommon item sold by the travelling merchant is an active detriment, since you could've gotten ANY other uncommon item (gizmo construction accessory, katana, skates, etc.)
Gravity Globe
Compared to the Soaring Insignia, it provides infinite "flight" and saves 1 accessory slot, but does not provide any of the control or acceleration/speed the Insignia + Wings provide
And it's inferior to a Gravitation Potion (One takes farming feathers in the end game, the other takes an accessory slot)
I think if it were moved to the Lunatic Cultist as an Expert Mode drop some players would actually use it practically for the Pillars and Moon Lord
Treasure Magnet
In my last playthrough I cheated in a few of these items to test them out.
This one was soooo handy when exploring and killing many enemies, be it in the caves, the dungeon, during blood moons, etc. Having it automatically pick up my loot was so comfortable.
It also doubled as a weaker Celestial Magnet and Heartreach Potion (it has less range them those + there's a lag period before the pick ups fly to you, they float up for a fit first before coming to you). It's important to note the heartreach effect was strong vs EoW
I think it's a nifty substitute for the Heartreach Potion in Corruption Worlds, and it requiring an accessory slot is fair enough to use during boss battles
I suggest it be acquired by fishing it up like the Frog Leg or from Iron/Gold Crates (with a high chance to be obtained, what is it with crates having such low drop rates for their contents)
Djinn's Curse
Haven't tested this one much, so I'm not sure
I was thinking post-Evil boss this could be useful on some builds that don't have pants/are fine with sacrificing their set bonus - Mage Gem robes, Meteorite armor, and Flinx Coat. But I still feel it's too early to be acquired then
For it's obtainability I was thinking weaker non-Corrupted Desert Spirits could spawn during sandstorms and drop this. It would give a reason to do sandstorms pre-HM
Diving Helmet
Have it replace the Breathing Reed in Water Chests
Almost never have I gotten this item. To get it I need to go out of my way to farm for sharks, which are already hard enough to spawn, and it's only a 5% drop chance. By the time you can reliably farm then this item is relegated to a glorified crafting material, and if you can reliably farm for this, you're probably past the point of this being useful.
It'd be great to use as a Helmet at the start of the game when you don't have anything else
Side note, give it's tinkers the extra defense. Would make it slightly more useful in early game
Breathing Reed
Move it to the Wooden Chest
Even as a weapon it's weaker then the Trident (another item from the same chest loot pool)
Not much of a reason, but its funny holding gimmick fits with the Umbrella and Step Stools funny gimmicks
It's breathing gimmick could be useful in early game when you haven't yet found a Water Chest, i.e. when reaching the Ocean
Titan Glove
I tested this a bit and it was very useful in early game for traversing the world, specifically vs corruption/jungle enemies
It was exceptionally useful with Boomerangs already high knockback
Both it's effects are useful in the early game.
The Power Glove would be obtainable earlier in turn, and that won't be a glorified crafting material either anymore. You can even stack the Feral Claws and Power Glove for a melee/whip speed build
I think this too can be obtained from Wooden Chests and Skeleton Merchant
Titan Potion
This was a pretty strong potion, I found it useful for exploring caves and fending off crowds of mobs.
I think it'd be great if it were accessible post-Evil Boss instead of post-Skeletron, it could require meteorite ore instead of bones
Moon Charm
From my testing it didn't seem too powerful. It was very handy for the regen and defence. The movement buffs were also welcome. It was pretty much a Pre-HM Moon Stone minus the damage buffs (except for melee)
I think the Zoologist could sell it during Full Moons, or have scaled down Werewolves spawn in pre-HM
KO Cannon
Despite this dealing more base damage than the Dark Lance, it deals less DPS. It lacks the pierce, the double hits, and the debuff. It has slightly more reach and knockback though
It's a very fun weapon, I think it will actually be good in late pre-HM
I think it's obtainment fits into anything really
Skeleton Merchant - Since he sells the Slap Hand during Blood Moons in hardmode
Travelling Merchant - Since he already sells the Gray Zapinator post-any boss
Obtained from Irom Crates - kinda like the Falcon Blade
Silver Bracer and Wicked Armlet
I'm torn on how to go about these accessories. Here are the things that bug me about them
The Silver Bracer's whip duration extension feels strong, too strong as the very first whip stacking accessory. It feels like a Hardmode accessory effect
The Silver Bracer being an extra reward in Dungeon Chests feels out of place and bloats the Dungeon chest pool. Besides this, it's obtained with the Cobalt Shield at the same point in progression, to instantly make the Silver Shield. Feels weird that both are pretty much glorified crafting materials that you get at the same time.
The Wicked Armlet's knockback effect by itself fits pre-HM, e.g. for fighting WoF's Hungries
The Wicked Claws tinker is weak
The Armlet of Ruin's damage is decent but does not compete with a more whip focused build
I have 2 different ideas how to go about these accessories
1. Move the Wicked Armlet to early pre-hm, and nerf the Armlet of Ruin
The Wicekd Claws and Armlet of Ruin will be more desirable and useful
Although the Twilight Grasp would be available for WoF, that might be too strong.
2. Swap their effects - Silver Bracer provides extra knockback, while the Wicked Armlet provides increased whip effect duration. Move the Silver Bracer to be obtainable earlier. And as many people suggested already move the Wicked Armlet to the Goblin Summoner
The Silver Bracer could be crafted from Silver/Tungsten + Shackle at a Tinkerer's Workbench. Or sold by the Zoologist (shes uses Whips)
The Silver Shield having 2 knockback effects (immunity and increased knockback to enemies) would be more fitting/thematic for the accessory
