How the new Xbox versions stack up

As we mentioned yesterday, a free upgrade is out now for Mafia 3: Definitive Edition on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, accessible to digital edition owners of Mafia 3 from the Xbox One days (and presuambly via Xbox disc to digital too).
If you haven't managed to locate it yet, you'll want to look for something called "Mafia III: Definitive Edition for XBOX Series X|S" on the Microsoft Store - it's a totally separate game to the original Xbox One version. As long as you own Mafia 3: DE in digital form already, it should be showing as a free download.
You'll also get it included in a bundle if you buy "Mafia III: Definitive Edition" on the store (which includes the Xbox One version too), and it's currently discounted to just £4.99 / $5.99 if you fancy grabbing it for your collection.
So, how's it running? We've got some initial footage from Fuzion Xbox Testing to analyse today, revealing some of the visual and performance differences between the old 30FPS release and the new 60FPS variant.
On Xbox Series X, the graphics don't appear to have received any major improvements compared to the old Xbox One version of Mafia 3, but as confirmed by the development team yesterday, various adjustments have been made to lighting, texture rendering, and vegetation streaming amongst other things. You're still going to struggle to see much difference, but the frame rate is at least targeting 60 frames per-second now, and it seems to be a very smooth 60FPS for the most part.
On Xbox Series S, it's obviously a similar situation with the visuals, although the resolution seems to be slightly lower than on Series X. Again though, it appears to remain locked to 60FPS in most instances, so that's a big improvement.
Ultimately, you're not going to be blown away from a visual perspective with this Mafia 3 upgrade for Xbox Series X|S, but it's certainly running a lot smoother than it used to. We'll leave you with some raw gameplay footage for both versions down below, and let us know in the comments if you've already started playing it!
