GTA VI Marketing Budget Alone Is Reportedly At Least $150 Million
The marketing budget of Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world action-adventure game, GTA VI, is reportedly at least 150 million US Dollars.
The marketing budget for GTA VI was cited by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rene Garcia (via The Miamian) during a recent debate over a proposed promotional partnership between Rockstar Games and local government officials in Florida. The negotiations involve transforming several county-owned facilities into Vice City-themed installations to promote the highly anticipated game.

Garcia reportedly raised concerns about the proposed agreement, which would allow Rockstar Games to advertise GTA VI at locations including Miami International Airport, PortMiami and Metromover stations. He questioned why the county had negotiated a deal worth less than 1 million US Dollars when the developer was spending at least 150 million US Dollars on marketing. “[I’ve] done some research, and at least a minimum of $150 million, [Rockstar Games is] spending on marketing,” he said.
The controversy focuses on a 975,000 US Dollars agreement for a “Welcome to Vice City” sign on the roof of Miami’s Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat. The promotional display is expected to receive exposure through NBA broadcasts and social media. However, some county commissioners have opposed the marketing initiative, arguing that GTA VI’s portrayal of violence, crime and corruption conflicts with county policies restricting certain types of advertising. Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins also cited the county’s previous rejection of a 10 million US Dollar bid for arena naming rights from an adult entertainment company.
Meanwhile, Miami and Miami Beach have pursued their own promotional arrangements with Rockstar Games. Miami has negotiated a deal worth up to 1.2 million US Dollars for six temporary advertising banners, while Miami Beach has approved signage arrangements that will generate up to 4 million US Dollars for the city.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s office has defended the 975,000 US Dollar agreement, saying that compensation was assessed using comparable advertising deals, the display’s location and duration, and its overall promotional value.
