Niall (pronounced Ny-ul) is a UK-based writer who has been writing about Magic: The Gathering throughout his entire career, with everything from new set breakdowns and individual deck guides to offering his opinions on the state of formats and the general direction of the iconic TCG. Niall also has a rich history covering triple-A releases, sports games, and PC hardware.

The Star Trek set includes some fun, exciting Magic: The Gathering cards, and one treatment in particular is set to be extremely valuable. We're talking about the first-ever signed MTG cards: seven iconic characters with full-art cards signed by the actors who played them.

If you're keen to know more about the different card variants you'll find when opening packs of Star Trek Universes Beyond cards, then we've got you covered; we'll even run down exactly where each one can be found so you don't waste time and money hunting in the wrong product.

Signed Headline Cards

Collector Boosters Only

All MTG Star Trek Signed Cards

We're kicking things off with the most exclusive and valuable cards in this set. This set includes seven full-art character cards, each printed in surge foil and featuring the authentic autograph of the actor who played the role.

Each card is still a traditional Magic card; it's just textless, so the artwork and signature stand out. Textless cards aren't rare in Magic, but given that there are fewer than 250 of each character, we wouldn't recommend using one in any of your decks. Then again, if Post Malone can use his 1/1 The One Ring in his Commander deck, then who are we to say you can't use one of these?

You can only find these cards in Collector Booster packs.

Klingon Frame & Language Cards

Play & Collector Boosters

  • Gowron, Eager for Battle Star Trek MTG card.

  • Worf, Inteligence Contractor Star Trek Klingon Card.

Another rare card in this set is the Klingon frame, but more specifically, the Klingon Language card. Only ten cards in the set receive this treatment, and Wizards of the Coast consulted Klingon language experts to ensure everything was handled with care.

The Klingon frames can appear in all packs in both foil and nonfoil treatments, but the Klingon language cards appear only in Collector Boosters and only in foil.

LCARS Shock Lands & Variants

Play & Collector Boosters

  • Beverly Crusher LCARS MTG Star Trek card.

  • Breeding Pool LCARS MTG Star Trek card.

  • Overgrown Tomb LCARS Star Trek MTG Card.

  • Q, Stacking the Deck, LCARS MTG Star Trek card.

Next up are the LCARS frames, which are designed to look like the computer on board the U.S.S. Enterprise. These variants are most notable for including the first-ever full-art Shock Lands ever printed, and that alone should add considerably to their value.

Surge foil versions of these cards are only available in Collector Booster packs.

In addition to the ten Shock Lands, 29 other cards feature the LCARS treatment, including seven uncommons, 14 rares, and eight mythic rares.

Classic Enterprise Cards

Play & Collector Boosters

  • Captain Kirk Classic Enterprise MTG Star Trek.

  • Salt Vampire Classic Enterprise Card Star Trek MTG.

The next card treatment in the Star Trek set is the Classic Enterprise cards, which feature a retro-looking design and artwork that is heavily inspired by classic Star Trek posters.

There are 24 of these cards in total, split between five uncommons, 13 rares, and six mythic rares. Each card comes in nonfoil and foil, with surge foils being exclusively available in Collector Booster packs.

Stardates Cards

Play & Collector Boosters

  • Bristly Bill Star Trek Stardate Card.

  • Kenrith, the Returned King Star Trek MTG reprint.

Next is one of the most contentious variants in this set: the Stardates cards. These cards take iconic moments from the Star Trek movies and shows and put that artwork onto a reprinted card. It first appeared with Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan, a reprint of Sheoldred, the Apocalypse.

We've since seen a few additional cards, including Kenrith, the Returned King, Minamo, School at Water's Edge, and Bristly Bill, Spine Sower.

There are 30 of these reprints in total, and nonfoil versions are available in Play Boosters, while the foil variants are only in Collector Boosters.

Beam Me Up Bundle Only

  • Borg Cube Beam Me Up Star Trek MTG variant.

  • USS Enterprise-D Galaxy Class Beam Me Up Star Trek MTG card.

The last notable variant is the Beam Me Up promo, a set of eight cards with a unique treatment. Each of the cards is a Spacecraft-type card, and is presented with artwork made to look like a schematic of the ship.

You receive only two of the eight promo cards in each Beam Me Up bundle, so completing the full set will be quite a challenge.
