《Starship Troopers: Extermination》游戏总监 Peter Maurice 问答第一部分:至今的旅程与经验教训
Starship Troopers: Extermination Game Director Peter Maurice Q&A Part 1: The Journey So Far & Lessons Learned
Starship Troopers: Extermination is set to go even deadlier with Update 13, which drops tomorrow, October 22, and introduces the iconic Hoppers as flying threats. With more to come in 2027 and beyond, we’ve had the chance to ask game director Peter Maurice some questions. This is part one of that Q&A.
GW: Looking back at the game’s journey from Early Access to version 1.0 and beyond, what has changed the most during Starship Troopers: Extermination’s post-launch support?
The journey has been incredible. We continue to deliver substantial amounts of free content to players every few months. If there’s one major change, it’s that we’ve balanced the addition of new content with a greater focus on improving existing content, listening to community feedback, and introducing quality-of-life features.
GW: Which pieces of feedback from the community have had the biggest impact on the game’s development?
The biggest amount of community feedback has always been around improving the core gameplay experience, particularly when it comes to killing Bugs. We’ve focused every update on introducing new gameplay improvements, as well as optimizations and performance enhancements, to make that experience even more enjoyable.
GW: Can you tell us about an instance of unexpected player behaviour that changed how you looked at a certain feature or piece of content?
One great example is our Carnage system. We noticed that players absolutely loved piling up Bug bodies on the battlefield and then blowing them all up for fun. It was something we hadn’t necessarily anticipated becoming such a big part of the player experience, but we loved seeing how much fun the community was having with it.
We decided to lean into that player behavior and take it a step further by creating an entirely new seasonal mode called Operation Stalwart Sanitation, where players are assigned to Bug cleanup duty! Their mission is to clean up the mountains of Bug corpses left behind after a massive battle. It’s a great example of how the community can inspire us to take something unexpected and turn it into a whole new gameplay experience. Sometimes, the players show us just how much fun we can have with a feature in ways we never imagined.
GW: Looking at Year Three of support, what’s the biggest challenge to keep the game fresh?
We’re fortunate to have such a loyal and dedicated player base across PC and console, so our biggest challenge is keeping players happy and engaged with both the game and the content we deliver. We’re also lucky to have a wealth of content from the Starship Troopers IP that we have yet to explore, including new weapons, Bugs, and locations. We’re ready for that challenge and have a few surprises up our sleeves for 2027.
The full exchange with Maurice extends beyond a single article. Stay tuned for parts two and three of our Q&A in the coming days.
Starship Troopers: Extermination is available on PC (Steam & Epic Games Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
