Paramount Pictures is adapting a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

According to Deadline, CD Projekt Red will co-produce the film with Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

"We're excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise," said CDPR co-CEO Michał Nowakowski. "We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time."

Since 2022, CDPR has produced the Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners with animation studio Trigger. The second season will premiere later this month.

CDPR is currently focused on The Witcher 4 , having expanded its team to 513 developers over the summer. CDPR's Boston studio has also started work on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

Recent video game adaptations for film and television have positively impacted franchise back catalogues. Analysts told GamesIndustry.biz that Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie increased Capcom's Resident Evil player engagement by 50% before and after its release.

The second season of Amazon's Fallout adaptation quickly became the sixth most-watched series of all time. Following its premiere, the number of concurrent Fallout players on Steam more than doubled.

Other video game adaptations currently in the works at Paramount include the upcoming Street Fighter film co-produced with Legendary, and a movie based on the Call of Duty franchise directed by Peter Berg.

Earlier this week, Paramount completed its $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, with both companies operating under the name Skydance.

As part of the deal, Paramount Games Studio and WB Games merged under Skydance. Skydance president Andy Gordon emphasised the company's transmedia goals across games, experiences, consumer products, and publishing.

"These are core pillars of our strategy to build engagement and fandom in both the physical and digital worlds. We want to meet consumers where they watch, play, and engage. At the same time, we see opportunities to build on DC Comics' storytelling and expand our e-commerce offerings to connect fans with the brands they love."
