随机语音录音作为叙事手法的疲劳感讨论

I'm kind of tired of finding random voice recordings as a storytelling mechanic.

I feel like this just got popularized with BioShock. And at first it was kind of novel but I feel like it's a really over used mechanic now. And sometimes feels down right out of place.

I'm playing Hellraiser Revival. And very early on you find a detective who very much got got by the cult that you're trying to escape from. And apparently instead of trying to escape to safety he pulled out a recorder and absolutely needed to make a random voice memo about the fact that he was dying.

There are just so many games like this where the usage of the voice memo thing just doesn't work for me. Now I'll give a tip of the hat to Silent Hill Townfall. They actually managed to contextually use voice notes in a way that makes absolute sense by trying them to voice mail on random people's answering machines on their phones.

That's a context for both the message and it's placement that makes absolute sense. Dunno random topic. But it's been something that randomly pops in my head from time to time especially when I see a particularly nonsensical usage of them.
