科乐美计划《寂静岭》第二、第三波作品

Konami has once again reiterated their plans for the Silent Hill franchise, announcing that they are planning “second and third waves” of titles. In a recent interview in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu issue 1965 (which has been translated by Game Observer), series producer Motoi Okamoto reveals that after the “great relief” of the first batch of Silent Hill titles, Konami is already looking towards what it can do next.

Speaking to Famitsu, Okamoto looked back on the series’ revival since that October 2022 Silent Hill Transmission, where Konami revealed the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill f. With all three titles now released (with plenty of praise), Okamoto was glad that the company’s return to the series largely went smoothly. “All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved (laughs),” he stated. “They’ve also received high praise, and we are satisfied with it.”

“Successfully launching this ‘first wave’ comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here”, he continues. “We must think of the second and third waves. We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects.”

Okamoto then explained that pitching the idea of three new entries in the series wasn’t easy. However, he believed that just having the remake of Silent Hill 2 wasn’t going to cut it for fans. “From my perspective, just one remake is not enough; as a producer, I cannot let it end only with that.” Okamoto pointed to the infamous cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s P.T. as evidence that fans would be skeptical of Konami’s attempts to resurrect the franchise if they just went with the remake.

“If there were only one release, wouldn’t people think that the development is going to be cancelled again, I thought.”

As for what’s next (so far), Bloober Team is currently working away on the remake of the original Silent Hill, which was announced last year. There’s also plans for another film adaptation, this time from Roy Lee, who was one of the producers behind Zach Cregger‘s Resident Evil.
