Is it still going to be bad?

Lego

I'm intrigued, but it's gonna be hard to replace all the DLC and CDLC with a subscription service.

Big Powder

I'll try it but only if it's easy to use my audio interface (a pretty old first generation Scarlett 2i2) to play. I tried looking into this for the older Rocksmith and it was such a mess of installing emulating programs and such to pretend to be the dongle, and just didn't seem worth the hassle so I gave up after a few unsuccessful tries. If they fix that, I'm in.

theAllseeingEYE

5000 songs is nuts. I would hope that also includes some punk rock, folk, and progressive rock?

I'm certainly interested in this, but the library would have to be pretty amazing for me to subscribe to it regularly, and the price would ideally need to be good.

Can't you get the real tone cable for like $30 still?

dougie4306

Can't you get the real tone cable for like $30 still?

surely its much easier to use something you already own than to spend an extra 30 bucks on something you'll only use for this

I hope it includes some math rock like covet or chon <3

Remeran

This is awesome, I have rocksmith for xbox but get pretty bad latency sometimes using the ubisoft tone cable.

No experience learning guitar with it, but it's great for learning songs because the TAB like structure and the tools it gives you to slow down and loop through tracks.

Shopolic

I know they made this game to play with guitars, but is it possible to get some mods to play it with normal controller on PC?

Its not at all like Rockband/Guitar Hero, where there are only 6 or so buttons on the guitar. Rocksmith takes advantage of the full range of a real guitar, and when you play the song on the highest difficulty, you are legit playing the actual guitar part of a song.

Which is all to say, that it would be damn near impossible to map the inputs to a controller.

All those words are English but together they make no sense.

Dead Man Typing

That's interesting. I was thinking of hooking up Rocksmith for the first time in years earlier today.

Thanks for explanation. I'm dying for a new rhythm game like old GHs with controller. :(
Clone Hero is a good one, but I want something more official like GH/RB. Hope to see a new GH (like old ones with controller) from Activision/Microsoft and I think it could be a great title for Game Pass.

Ciao

5000 song, damn. I'm a bit worried part of it will be gone after some time with no possibility to play it ever again. At least with DLC, you can buy and own even after the songs are delisted.

mztik

Honestly, if you play almost every day the 12-month sub is going to be worth every penny.

Crespo

So you only need the Real Tone cable for this?

I'm seeing the 2014 one on amazon, 30 bucks, are there updated versions or am I safe to go with that one?

Big Powder

Maybe, but I have a perfectly good audio interface that functions wonderfully without lag, and I don't buy that there's a reason why that cable is required if people have come up with ways to work around it. I would prefer to not have an extra cable lying around.

All those words are English but together they make no sense.

They make perfect sense? I already have an audio interface that is capable of recording guitar plugged straight in, with no lag, in studio quality (that I use to record my music!). I don't want an extra thing just to play one game and I definitely don't want to shell out $30 for it when it's something that should already be covered by my existing hardware setup. Adding wider support for audio interfaces/inputs would be great for all of the musicians out there who already have a nice setup for getting the audio into the computer.

Wil Grieve

Made perfect sense to me.

I never clicked with this for learning songs. Maybe just me, but non of these interactive tools have helped me as much as just getting on youtube, looking at a really good tutorial and practising.

Piccoro

Sure, I'll try it.
Whenever it releases on consoles, that is.

Scarlet Death

This will be a good birthday present! I enjoyed the guitar lessons in the beta and will probably pick this up just for that. I'm still kind of over instrument based rhythm games still but I've been putting off actually learning how to play guitar for a few decades. I failed my music theory class in college but I've been looking for some accessible way to learn.

Wishbone Ash

I love Rocksmith, RS2014 but I'm hesitant about this still. Impressions from the beta were not great and I'm not really sure their approach of using computer-generated tabs and cutting down on half of the awesome features from 2014 will do them any favors with their fans who spent hundreds or thousands on DLC because of that effort.

Is it the first one with a subscription model ?
It didn't go very well for Guitar Hero Live...

I wrote up a whole thing but it's easier to just show you this video and say: yes, audio interfaces will be supported.

Song list is…..not good imo

chrominance

Random artists I saw: no songs from Sleater-Kinney but, uh, 32 songs from the Sahara Hotnights? What? Does anyone besides me even REMEMBER the Sahara Hotnights?

CHVRCHES: 31 songs, except when you click through it's actually just one song, the theme from Death Stranding. Okay. (tbf CHVRCHES is a weird pick for this kind of game anyways)

Going to wait for reviews after the reception I'm hearing from the beta. Hoping it turns out good though.

For those that played the beta: What exactly was underwhelming compared to the 2014 edition?

Xyber

RS2014 with all the customs songs will probably still be my main game, but I will definitely give this a go.

Don't know if they have done some updates to the graphics since the beta, I really think it was a big step back from a readability standpoint compared to 2014.

Moldiver

I could never get my interface to work with 2014 and I think it's cause my Universal audio rack only has 32-bit drivers and it looked like Rocksmith only worked with 16-bit drivers. This was the only thing I could find as a reason so hopefully plus works with it.

chrominance

Okay, scanning through the full list, I can't figure out if I'm just extremely out of touch and all the music I listen to is either old or obscure, or if the song list is genuinely that bad. Some artists I looked at appear to only be in the list because they're in some random-ass compilation album. Enormous artists from a few decades ago or less are just completely missing or almost non-existent (Smashing Pumpkins? Paramore? The National? Muse? Oasis? Nickelback? My Chemical Romance? I don't even like half these bands but really?). Meanwhile there are random one-hit wonders from the 90s I saw that make even less sense: who the hell knows any Primitive Radio Gods songs besides the one single they had that ISN'T in the game?

Thoroughly confused.

There appears to be very little curation to it. There's well known bands that have like 10 songs on there, but they're all live versions, and none of their well known ones. I can't get my head around it.

Yeah, it's odd that they seem to be missing a lot of bands that they have already had in the previous games as standard or DLC songs.

Feels like they went for more songs that are cheaper to license to have a bigger library of songs at launch.

I have always been intrigued by this type of a game service, but I have never looked into it deeply. For someone like me, who hasn't had any formal lessons or played much of the guitar, will this help me build a good foundation and actually teach me how to play the guitar? I have an electric guitar at home (but I probably only touched it like twice or so). Thank you

phant0m

Pretty excited for this. Bought tons of DLC for 2014. Will it work with any guitar/audio interface? I lost my tone cable and don't want to get another unnecessarily

EDIT: It does, sweet!

Finally, if you play on PC and you have a third-party audio interface you may be able to use it with Rocksmith Plus. That will allow you to connect electric instruments directly to your PC much like the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable.

Prat

I was very excited for this, but..... is this song library updated?

No Led Zepellin, Pink Floyd, Soundagrden, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Porcupine Tree, Leprous..

They fkn killed me

As someone who was self taught (before Rocksmith was a thing) and eventually started taking lessons, you'll pick up a shit ton of bad habits, but 70%+ of your favorite guitarists have tons of "bad" (i.e. not "classical") technique habits anyway. They still shred. Just playing along with the songs will teach you how to play the guitar, but it won't do anything to help your actual understanding of the instrument. Which, btw, is totally fine. Plenty of people learn instruments just to play their favorite songs and it doesn't need to go further than that.

I hated dealing with the Real Tone cable in Rocksmith 2014, so being able to use any audio interface should provide a much better overall experience. Skimming over the song list, I actually see a lot of stuff that's interesting to me to play, so I'm interested in jumping back in.

Can't speak for how good this game will be, but you can definitely learn to play. Your progress won't be as good as if you went and took lessons, but it will make picking up the guitar a lot more fun as a beginner. I have almost 500 hours in the first game and 1300 hours in 2014. I have done the majority of my guitar playing the past decade through the game and I would say I have gotten to be pretty decent at playing.

Galaxea

I am tempted by it. I picked up a decent monoprice guitar a couple years ago which I've only used once. I was learning by acoustic but fell off. I might try it if the retail version is decent.

I thought people here were overreacting but holy shit lmao. I know this isn't on anyone else's priority list but 14 songs by Tom Tom Club and none of them are Genius of Love? what?

From a look of the lessons section, yea you can learn from rock smith, personally though I think there are better free resources out there. Rocksmith is really great for learning songs though.

If you're really interested in learning the instrument without formal lessons I'd suggest starting with something like justinguitar.com and using rocksmith as a supplement.

A huge library of songs, but there's undeniably a lot of filler there. My impression is that you still get a much greater number of hits out of the box than you would have in RS2014.

For those that played the beta: What exactly was underwhelming compared to the 2014 edition?

Reactions were largely mild-negative. Lots of people do not like the switch to a subscription service. There were a couple of complaints about note detection and the UI.

For what it's worth I think most of the issues were very fixable, and that you might not even notice them if you hadn't played the previous game.

Rune Walsh

I looked through just the rock songs and it's mostly barren of anything I'd want to play. I'll stick with 2014 and the CDLC for now thanks.

Their song list certainly seems to be about quantity over quality.

Old-old cables don't work in modern computers for some reason - I learned this the hard way. I don't know if it's a USB thing or a driver thing with Windows 10. But it's likely that any cables that are on sale now are the last batch.

---

Given that this has been in beta for so long, I'm just curious how it's different from the base game and why people would want to make the jump.
