BioWare’s Neverwinter Nights continues to host ‘mini MMOs’ 24 years after its release
BioWare的《无冬之夜》自2002年发售24年后,仍承载玩家社区创建和运行的“mini MMO

We here in the MMORPG space are no strangers to long-running titles, but it’s still a cause to celebrate when we see how titles from the late ’90s and early 2000s are still trucking on despite their age. One of these is BioWare’s Neverwinter Nights, an RPG that was designed to allow the community to create and run multiplayer worlds since its launch in 2002.
Technology and entertainment site Ars Technica recently posted a piece marveling about the long lifespan of Neverwinter Nights and the community that continues to support the multiplayer aspect, including allowing players to slide into the role of a dungeon master for live campaigns and making “mini MMOs.”
“This is the game’s legacy, not the story campaigns that shipped with the game. And that explains the game’s relative obscurity today: That’s a more niche appeal than a really good, story-driven, single-player RPG. But for the people who are into it, there’s nothing else that quite compares,” the article reads.
