NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 appears to be one step closer to retirement, as the flagship Blackwell gaming GPU has reportedly disappeared from the company's official Marketplace, adding further credibility to recent reports suggesting that NVIDIA has quietly discontinued its most powerful consumer graphics card.

The development was first highlighted by Reddit user u/just_IT_guy on r/pcmasterrace, who shared a screenshot showing that the RTX 5090 was no longer among the selectable GPU models on NVIDIA's Marketplace, despite having appeared there just a day earlier.

We also visited the NVIDIA Marketplace ourselves and found that the RTX 5090 had indeed disappeared from the listed Blackwell RTX 50 Series SKUs, where it had previously been featured:

The NVIDIA website displays graphics cards including the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5080 16GB OC Edition priced at $1,899.99 and the PNY GeForce RTX 5070 Triple Fan Graphics Card priced at $849.99, with specifications listed under each model.

NVIDIA's RTX 5090 Marketplace Removal Follows Reports Of Production Being Halted And Retailers Pulling Stock

This development follows a series of reports suggesting that NVIDIA is preparing to retire its flagship GeForce GPU. Just a few days ago, we reported that NVIDIA had allegedly halted RTX 5090 production, with future supplies of its massive GB202 Blackwell silicon reportedly being redirected toward the company's more lucrative RTX PRO workstation lineup.

The decision would hardly be surprising given the unprecedented demand for AI hardware, rising memory prices, and the considerably higher margins NVIDIA can command in the professional and enterprise markets.

The NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000 workstation GPU, sporting a fuller GB202 die and 96 GB of GDDR7 memory, represents a considerably more lucrative use of NVIDIA's high-end Blackwell silicon than the GeForce RTX 5090, thanks to its substantially higher selling price and potentially much healthier profit margins in the professional workstation market. Further supporting these reports, Micro Center recently updated its RTX 5090 listings to a "Not Carried" status. One customer even claimed that employees at a Micro Center store were actively removing RTX 5090 graphics cards from the shelves on October 9, with a manager reportedly refusing to explain where the remaining inventory was being sent.

Meanwhile, NVIDIA is rumored to be preparing a GeForce RTX 5080 24 GB as its new Blackwell gaming flagship, potentially replacing both the RTX 5090 32 GB and the existing RTX 5080 16 GB. According to previous reports, the refreshed GPU could arrive as early as Q1 2027, sporting 24 GB of GDDR7 memory, although other specifications remain unconfirmed.

Of course, NVIDIA has yet to officially announce the discontinuation of the RTX 5090, and the GPU remains featured on the company's broader GeForce RTX 50 Series product page. Its disappearance from the Marketplace's model selection is therefore not definitive confirmation of an EOL (end of life) decision.

Nevertheless, when combined with the reported production halt, retail inventory changes, and rumors surrounding the RTX 5080 24 GB, the signs are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. If these reports prove accurate, the RTX 5090 could end up being one of NVIDIA's shortest-lived flagship GeForce GPUs, leaving enthusiasts with considerably fewer options at the very high end of the gaming market.
