Xbox 强制要求每周四天返岗
[The Verge] Xbox mandates a four-day return to office
Microsoft asked its employees to return to the office three days per week last year, and it's now upping this requirement to four days a week for most Xbox employees. An internal memo, seen by The Verge, describes the change as a "need to create more opportunities for people to work together" after feedback from Xbox employees.
"Starting February 1st, 2027, Xbox employees in Puget Sound who live within 50 commuting miles of Studio D are required to work from the office a minimum of four days a week," says Jacinda Chislum Pearson, Xbox chief people officer, in the internal memo. "We have thousands of Xbox employees within commuting distance of Redmond. Taking advantage of that proximity and working together in person makes it easier to review work, resolve issues, and make decisions without the burden of scheduling another meeting."
The change to four days in the office will only apply to those close to Microsoft's corporate campus in Redmond, Washington, and Pearson's memo appears to suggest that "established in-office practices" for Xbox studios will remain unchanged.
Microsoft has had exemptions to its return to office rules for certain roles, and Xbox employees with existing exemptions will need to resubmit them again. The return to office changes come just a day after a report suggested Microsoft was planning to announce further Xbox layoffs this month, and in November and January. Microsoft announced in July that it was planning to eliminate around 20 percent of Xbox jobs by the end of its financial year at the end of June 2027.
Trying to get the numbers down for that next round of layoffs I guess.
These are just silent layoffs on top of the incoming layoffs.

yes because this absolutely will turn around Xbox
At a time with such job uncertainty and economic turmoil, what a evil move.
More layoffs to prepare for the sale I see.
at least they're not mandating it for people who are further away from a location, but even that 50 mile bar is shitty.

Jesus Christ
So the trick is if you ever get another remote job, make sure you live as far away as possible from any office.
Who am I kidding they'll just lay you off

Absolutely loathe these terms. God I hate the office and the excuses execs make to get people back.
Xbox is saved, for real this time.
lmao

It's a known pressure tactic to force people to resign instead of having to lay them off. Especially for remote employees that were hired that way and can't afford or want to move. I expect the previous RTO exemptions will be basically impossible to get in this round.
Great vote of self confidence in the various products Microsoft develop and sell to facilitate collaborative working from home?
Sucks. But going from 3 days a week to 4 is probably not a deal breaker for most. My company switched from fully remote to return to office 5 days a week this year. That was brutal
So soft layoff.
In the company where I work they are implementing the same 4 days return to office. They announced this like 3 months ago and said the next month the first day of the month we have to return.
What happened? A lot of people left because they didn't work in the same city or the office was so far from where they live that it didn't make sense
They delayed this return and then delayed again until s couple of weeks when we came back to the office only to tell us that it was actually 3 at home and 2 at the office…
Trying to get the numbers down for that next round of layoffs I guess.
One and done. This is just a soft layoff. 100 mile commute fucking sucks ass.

The bigger issue for people is that the prior exemptions from the 3 day RTO have to be reapproved and I would bet they aren't going to get approved in this round.

quiet layoffs
Synergy, right? Tho i agree it's just to thin even more the staff there, it doesn't count as layoff if they leave by themselves : CEO thinking they found the greatest idea ever:
Very clearly the good old "stealth layoffs" for those who cannot commute anymore.
