Im interested because it's being written by the guy who wrote Denis Villenue's Prisoners and the creator of Raised by Wolves, but this animation ain't doing it for me

Shopolic

Can't wait for this!
It's nice to have different stories and characters in Death Stranding movie and anime, not just direct adaptation of the game.

MadJosh04

I love how this looks.

TheChungusAmongUs

"the character is gonna suck something"

ayo?

AlexDS1996

Death Stranding has my favorite universe in a game and I'm so glad it's being expanded upon rather than adapted.

The Quentulated Mox

i can't deny that death stranding is very anime but i don't think two dudes having an anime punch-up is really what i come to death stranding for. extremely whelming

I mean. "Two dudes having an anime punch up" was a big part of both games climaxes.

Drachen

Not sure about this. I like the rough sketchy look but not the 3DCG animation.

i know, but the promise of that happening was not what sold me a copy, what got me interested was a bunch of bizarre and inscrutable imagery in all the trailers, none of which is on display here

R3ndezvous

Holy fuck that looks good.

Protag looks cool

Saifu

Art style sorta reminds me of Batman Ninja.
I just find it weird that they are throwing hands like that tho.

23qwerty

man you'd kind of expect some nicer animation huh

PLASTICA-MAN

I liked that movie haha.

Bishop89

JigglesBunny

Looks pretty cool, but I'm pretty done with Death Stranding as a franchise at the moment. Not a whole lot of interest in seeing other stories from that world either. The stuff Kojima has in the oven is much more my personal speed, and I'm looking forward to getting straight to that.

Sems4arsenal

This isn't Sam, right?

GTOAkira

DS getting a fighting anime before Street Fighter lol

AceDomino

This isn't Sam, right?

Looks like Higgs, actually. Has a similar mask and Odradek on the poster art too.

Nakenorm

Really enjoyed that snippet so definitely interested in more

This is the debut project of ABC Animation Studio which was established in june 2020 and is part of ABC Animation Inc. which was established in april 2016:

ABC ANIMATION, INC.

We are ABC Animation. In July 2016, we started the business as an Animation Program Planning Company in the Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings Corporation.

In animation—often called the ultimate synthesis of art—what if we took just one element and pushed it to its absolute limit?
For us, that element is the line.
From the bold strokes and flat colors of ukiyo-e, to the evolution into manga, to animation, and beyond—lines have been the foundation of Japanese visual storytelling for centuries.
Brush, pencil, chalk, digital pen—
We capture the raw, organic beauty of every hand-drawn line and bring it to life on screen, preserving its texture and spirit.
At ABC ANIMATION STUDIO, we are committed to an animation style that celebrates "the line" above all else—pushing its expressive power into new worlds, new genres, and new possibilities.

Animation Director / Filmmaker.
With a career spanning Square Enix, Production I.G, and Toei Animation, Hiroshi Miyamoto founded ABC ANIMATION STUDIO in 2020.
He continues to transcend the boundaries between 2D hand-drawn artistry and 3DCG innovation, crafting bold new visual expressions.
The studio's debut work, produced in collaboration with Hollywood, is the animation film project "DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO."

The anime film director Hiroshi Miyamoto also posted this:

Honored to direct the anime film project based on "Death Stranding." A lifelong dream comes true as I work with Hideo Kojima as producer and with a screenplay by Mr. Aaron Guzikowski, known for numerous Hollywood films and TV dramas.
Grateful for the creative knots bringing such remarkable talents together
— I'll give it my all.

MadMod

Reminds me of that Star Wars Visions episode but far better looking, cool that they're expanding on the lore.

Modest_Modsoul

I actually thought they would do more traditional 2D instead of 3D...

But it looks good at least & I still not against 3DCG animes yet.

Lacrimosa

I don't… like it?

Hopefully the live-action nails the vibes better.

Yautja_Warrior

Love the hand drawn art style, it looks awesome.

PimentaGui

I trust Aaron script will be fire but just looked into that director credits and boy... that's not who I thought kojima would choose to direct his first foray into anime

I don't mind the 3d, they are for sure working on the lower budget angle here, just weird that it's not sony pictures handleling this

Hope it actually receives a theatrical release

R3ndezvous

I'd say it translate Yoji Shinkawa's art style quite nicely with 3DCGI

Lashley

Love the style but that clip didn't do a thing for me

Dever

Didn't really expect in anime fight scene in Death Stranding, I guess it's cool Kojima is letting other directors have pretty wildly different takes on his IP.

I mean sure DS2 has some pretty wild stuff but not with Sam doing flips like that lol.

EvaUnit787

It would be so awesome if they used the art style of Shinkawa, but that would be too much maybe.

I like how it looks in general, but I will always hate this faked 2D animation using 3D models. I just notice it every time that it looks weird and sometimes the actions blocky.

I will always mourn the industry completely moving on from hand drawn 2D animation .

Yurei

Looks dope!

Definitely a different energy than the main games here. This could be quite fun.

srrai

Didn't look like a movie at all, it looked like a straight 3D fighting game.

Yggfk

Fuuuuck, this looks amazing! I'm so in!! Death Stranding is one of my favorite IPs!

skeezx

i like it. i really couldn't tell it was 3D if you showed it to dork 90s me, but now i know how they do this stuff

"the character is gonna suck something"

ayo?

ayooo

kwill94

The animation looks incredible. I like that they are expanding with more stories. The only thing that makes me wonder is the name.

Mosquito from Español? Or does it have another meaning?

FantasticMrSnake

Looks too 3D when in motion, I hope it doesn't suck.

i can't deny that death stranding is very anime but i don't think two dudes having an anime punch-up is really what i come to death stranding for. extremely whelming

The teaser only shows the animation style and reveals the main character, but doesn`t show footage from the film.

I actually thought they would do more traditional 2D instead of 3D...

But it looks good at least & I still not against 3DCG animes yet.

It`s a mix of both. For the teaser Yoji Shinkawa did take a brush and used ink to draw lines that are used for the characters so blood, hair, shades etc. are all drawn in lines and these are then combined with color layers. For the backgrounds they work with Studio Easter (Dandanan) and they ask pencil artists to create these backgrounds individually for every single cut and combine them with digital colors. So they combine analog handrawn cuts with the digital and for the film they expect pencil artist to create 1500 of these.

It will be a movie theater release based on what Kojima said and it mixes analog handrawn and digital.

yeah this was a proof of concept rather than footage from the actual film - so its not as detailed/fleshed out as the final thing will be

This is like one of my Japanese videogames.

Lyrical Media has acquired Line Mileage and launched Lyrical Animation to tap into global demand for adult animation, with an emphasis on animated features.

Line Mileage's three partners will join with Jacob Robinson as head of Lyrical Animation, Daniel Dominguez as Creative Director, and Brad Graeber as adviser and production consultant.

The company is also producing an anime feature adaptation of Death Stranding, the action-adventure game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The feature, written by Aaron Guzikowski, is preparing to go to market, with casting discussions underway.

The 2023 established animation production company "Line Mileage" that is producing the animated film alongside Kojima Productions is now "Lyrical Animation", a division of the 2021 established "Lyrical Media" after they were aquired. They now have three divisons:
- "Lyrical Media" which focuses on live action films. For example they are financing the upcoming "The Death by Robin Hood" movie directed and written by Michael Sarnoski who will do the Death Stranding live action movie for A24 (which are also distributing the Robin Hood film in the US).
- "Lyrical Games" which is a privately funded game publisher that launched in 2025 with three titles in productions. The first announced title was Valor Mortis and they are also working with Hardspace: Shipbreaker developer Blackbird Interactive on a project.
- "Lyrical Animation" which focuses on adult animated features and are involved in "Hell Followed With Us" a film adaption in development with Lilly Wachoswki and DS Mosquito.

Now we have the first confirmation that Kojima Productions staff are also involved creatively in the animation projects with KJP concept artist Entei Ryu working on them which likely means Yoji Shinkawa and others are also involved:

kojimaproductions.jp

Can you please tell us what you do at KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS?

My name is Entei Ryu and I work at KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS primarily as a concept artist. Most of the time, I use sculpting and drawing to build the visuals of characters, creatures and the world itself. I've worked on concept art for DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH, OD, and more recently PHYSINT, as well as the upcoming DEATH STRANDING animation projects.

Kojima Productions will hold a 10th anniversary exhibition at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo, Japan that runs from october 31, 2026 to december 20, 2026 and we will get a look at some character? designs looking at the statue at the far right that will be present at the gallery for visitors to take a look at:
1) Kojima Productios Ludens statue in a special 10th anniversary guise
2) Death Stranding 2: On The Beach statue
3) OD Knock statue
4) Death Stranding Mosquito statue

Here we can see how it will look at the gallery with a place for the anime movie Mosquito with the statue at the front and some infos plus pictures at the back:

Not a fan of the visuals, way too messy and blends togheter, and the 3D is way too evident, the IP deserve better.
