Shrek 2 Remastered leaks via early Xbox Store listing
A Microsoft Store page for an unannounced Shrek 2 Remastered went live early on October 16, revealing the Aspyr-developed remaster before either company had said a word about it.
The listing, which has since been removed from the Xbox Store, carried screenshots, a pre-order trailer and a full feature breakdown for the 2004 tie-in game. Its removal did not come fast enough to stop the details spreading, and the game remains unannounced.
What the listing showed
The page named Aspyr as developer and publisher and described a 4K rebuild of the game, with better textures, an enhanced UI and remade cutscenes. It also listed up to four-player co-op playable on the couch, online or a mix of both, plus a new Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode. Players can swap between heroes at any time, using their unique abilities against enemies and environmental puzzles.
No release date or price appeared anywhere on the listing or in the pre-order trailer, so there is nothing confirmed for Australia yet.
A leak in two parts
This is the second time the remaster has surfaced ahead of schedule. It first appeared in September during a large-scale Steam achievements leak, before anyone knew which platforms were involved.
Only Xbox is confirmed at this point. The original game shipped in 2004 on several platforms including GameCube, with a separate Game Boy Advance version, and Aspyr has a habit of sending its retro remasters to every current platform, so a wider release would be no surprise. The studio also handled the original Mac port of Shrek 2 and recently produced the Lord of the Rings and Middle-earth ports for Nintendo platforms.
The timing suggests the leak got ahead of a planned announcement. Shrek appears briefly in the teaser trailer for the ID@Xbox Showcase on October 20, and the expectation among those watching the story is that the official reveal lands there. That is expectation, not confirmation: neither Aspyr nor Xbox has announced anything.
