Update [Fri 9th Oct 2026, 2:30am]: Following a gameplay trailer and the announcement of a Switch 2 release, Kalypsomedia has now shared a story trailer for Tropico 7. Notably, it's all "work in progress" but you can check out the full trailer in the video above.
Once again, Tropico 7 launches for Switch 2 and other platforms on 28th January 2027.
"Get rich or die trying! In Tropico 7, you step into El Presidente’s shiny boots again to build your island nation and – literally – move mountains. From serving the Crown to pursuing their own ambitions, El Presidente’s rise to power offers plenty of opportunities to write history on his terms!"

Original Story: [Fri 18th Sep, 2026 04:30 BST]:
The dictator sim Tropico 7 is on its way to the Switch 2 and will be releasing alongside other versions on 28th January 2027.
This Switch 2 release is being developed by Engine Software, aka the Switch port specialist behind titles such as Ni no Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch.
The Nintendo version of the title has been optimised specifically for the Switch 2 and also comes loaded with some unique features. This includes Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and GameChat support.
"Tropico 7 Special Edition brings the series beloved signature mix of city building, politics, economics, and *questionable presidential decision-making* to a version specifically optimized for the handheld platform. Making use of the console’s unique features, the game supports mouse controls for Joy-Con 2 controllers for more precise control over island construction and management as well as GameChat to communicate with friends via voice chat or share their screen."
Tropico 6 was previously released on the original Switch in 2020, and we said it was an "easy recommendation" at the time.
