Last week, we reported on a mea culpa from he devs of RuneScape, as its plans for the Reignited character type incensed the sandbox’s veteran players, who argued that they were being pushed aside in favor of new players or that the release would split the population in half. Jagex has since started to more formally crystallize its plans on how to weave vets more closely with Reignited with a host of ideas and general plans.

First off, the studio confirmed that it is investigating a way for existing subscribers to change their current character from a veteran to a Reignited character and back again, maintaining their achievements and unlocking a unique cosmetic while also not having to pay a second subscription to do so. Jagex did specify it is “actively exploring” how to do this, so confirmation and details hasn’t been provided yet.

Other planned adjustments include making Reignited servers temporary so as not to split the playerbase (though those characters would still have their own economy and progression), changing restrictions on cross-character play, and allowing more veteran unlocks such as cosmetics, bank spaces, and “other meaningful, but non-gameplay impacting items” to carry over to a Reignited character.

Jagex also touched on the presumption that Reignited would exacerbate the problem of an already meager playerbase even smaller. “RuneScape today has hundreds of thousands of Members, and yes, that excludes OSRS players popping over from time to time,” the studio clarifies. “We are, and have been for a long time, trending on a slight decline. The existing community is large enough to sustain itself for many years.”

In other RuneScape news, there’s been a preview of a new duo boss fight arriving with the release of Haventhythe Part II this week. The post outlines some of the rewards, the pre-requisites, and some additional details like a solo version of the fight scheduled to launch next month and an enrage system that will apply challenging modifiers. The week’s update also adds the return of its Halloween-y Harvest Hollow area for spooky fun between now and November 1st.
