Creepy Tale Snow Child – out now

A trip to Hell might not be the first choice for a family adventure, but Creepy Tale: Snow Child has never been interested in playing by the rules of a traditional fairy tale.

The latest entry from Creepy Brothers is out now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, priced at £12.49 on the Xbox Store. Expect a curious blend of puzzles, stealth, action and dark humour as young Blizzy sets off to confront an ancient evil.

Published by Sometimes You, this new chapter invites players into a handcrafted world of strange characters, dangerous traps and unsettling secrets. And if you haven’t played the earlier Creepy Tale games, there’s no need to catch up before setting off.

A Heroic Adventure With A Rather Uncomfortable Destination

Blizzy is a young adventurer with grand ideas about saving the kingdom and proving himself a hero. Unfortunately, his latest quest takes him into Hell, where an ancient seal stands between the world and a darkness that should probably have stayed buried.

Helping him navigate this rather unfortunate situation is Molek, a tiny imp with a fondness for candy, children and cruel jokes. He might offer some useful guidance along the way, although trusting anything in this place feels like a gamble.

The journey mixes exploration and storytelling with moments that demand quick reactions. You’ll need to avoid sinister inhabitants, leap over deadly traps and work through puzzles as Blizzy ventures deeper into the underworld. The game’s black humour should offer some relief, though the atmosphere sounds decidedly more unsettling than your average storybook adventure.

Creepy Tale: Snow Child isn’t simply about running away from monsters. Its challenges also include original brainteasers, minigames and a range of unusual interactions that put different skills to the test.

From Enchanted Butterflies To Poisonous Towers

Among the stranger tricks up the game’s sleeve is the ability to tame enchanted butterflies and use them to bring pictures to life. Elsewhere, players take control of Furry, battling a monstrous spider and attempting to escape a poisonous tower. There are also hellish characters to befriend, provided you can make your escape before they decide you’d make a decent meal.

Exopect plenty of nods to familiar fairy tales too, although these are filtered through Creepy Brothers’ distinctly twisted imagination. Handcrafted animation brings dozens of bizarre characters to life, while a haunting soundtrack and professional voice acting help establish the mood.

Another Strange Chapter In The Creepy Tale Series

We’ve previously covered several entries in the series, including Creepy Tale (3/5 score), Creepy Tale 3: Ingrid Penance (3.5/5) and Creepy Tale: Some Other Place (4/5). That last review earned the strongest score of the three, so it’ll be interesting to see where Snow Child sits alongside its predecessors. We will find out soon.

Nicely, you don’t need any knowledge of the previous games to follow Blizzy’s story.

Creepy Tale: Snow Child is out now for £12.49 on the Xbox Store, with releases also available on PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. If a peculiar fairy tale filled with dangerous creatures, inventive puzzles and a trip into the underworld sounds appealing, Blizzy’s adventure is ready to begin.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
