So now that the majority of 2026 is behind us, and now that we know most of the games that are releasing for the rest of this year, what do we think the 6 nomiees for the Big award will be for TGA?

It's fun to predict and see at the end of the year which one of us was the closest. And its fun because the competition is tight and its a bit of a head scratcher at this moment with no proper consensus. By the end of October, I expect a consensus would have developed so its better to ask this question now.

For me, I think two of them are quite obvious, Zelda OOT and GTA 6, as long as they release within the cutoff date.

My (very risky because why not) prediction for the other 4:

1. Blood of Dawnwalker (I'm expecting deep narrative side quests and main quest from this game. Looking like a quasi mini-witcher 3 to me)
2. Phantom Blade Zero (Expecting a solid 85 metascore and a GOTY nominee)
3. Control Resonant (Remedy singleplayer don't miss)

4. Resident evil 9/Pokopia/Mina the Hollower/Wolverine/Fire Emblem or something else. This the nominee where I think something that has already released or a more safer prediction might get a nomination, and which I think a lot of people are expecting the nominations to be. I will personally be surprised if Pragmata/007/Saros get nominated. I'm also not confident about Forza 6/Mewgenics/Big walk getting nominated despite their Metacritic scores.

I would have also gone for Duskbloods(its Miyazaki after all, even if its online Bloodborne) but I have a feeling that'll release in December. And if I may interject my personal opinion on the show itself, hats off to Keighley for keeping the nominee count at 6 which keeps the competition tight and doesn't make it a checklist where every 80s-Metascore AAA games is getting auto nominated.

AzorAhai

Grand Theft Auto 6
Forza Horizon 6
SAROS
Resident Evil Requiem
Mina the Hollower
Pragmata OR 007 First Light OR Pokopia

I think the first three are safe bets. The rest is quite hard to guess this year. Many ~90 games which will be viewed differently in hindsight. I think Wolverine and Zelda OOT don't make it and don't even reach 90+.

GTA6
Requiem
Wolverine (whatever will be good or bad, you know Geoff will put it there)
Forza Horizon 6
Mina the Hollower
Zelda OOT (if really releases this year)

Edit: I forgot Crimson Desert.

Forza Horizon 6

Why would I know that? How is Geoff putting it there?

TheBathman

So far:
Big Walk
RE Requiem
Pragmata
Mixtape

Pretty soon:
GTA 6
Control Resonance

Isn't freaking Zelda ocarina of time coming out this year? This could be an all timer year.

werezompire

Right now, I think only RE9 and Pokopia are a lock. GTA6 isn't out yet but unless something goes really badly (last minute delay or a disappointing launch or reception), it's a shoo-in as well. That leaves 3 slots:

Mina or Mewgenics gets the big indie gem slot.
Big Walk gets the co-op multiplayer slot.
Big Action/Adventure slot goes to OoT (if it's a full-blown remake and not just the old game with better graphics), 007, or Wolverine. I guess Control could get this too, but that's more of a long shot. Also, there's a chance that 2 games in this category get in and Big Walk gets kicked.

I think Duskbloods will come out too later or be too weird to make the list. Forza isn't getting in 'cause it's racing and it didn't do enough different from the last installment. Fire Emblem is too niche even if it turns out to be excellent. Pragmata isn't big enough. Same with the Tomb Raider-esque Plague Tale spin-off. Same with Splatoon Raiders. Nobody bought Saros.

zombiejames

Crimson Desert deserves to be on there.

Darryl M R

Crimson Desert
Marathon
The Big Walk
GTA 6
Forza Horizon 6

ynthrepic

Mina and Saros should be but im not sure they will.

Ashes of Dreams

It's really hard to say because while we ARE halfway through the year, we have SO MANY huge releases in the back half happening that it's anyone's game. It's hard to say if something will be a wild unexpected hit. But assuming things go generally as expected, let's say...

Grand Theft Auto VI
Control Resonant
Pragmata
Ocarina of Time Remake
Mina the Hollower

Grand Theft Auto VI will probably win.

B0S

Keep in mind it's very likely GTA 6 will miss the juror nomination process.

Yeah no, GTA6 is a lock.

RPGam3r

GTA
And some other games that won't matter when put up against something like GTA. Yet another boring GOTY season soon to be upon us.

MadJosh04

Crimson Desert (my current GOTY that's out)
GTA6
RE9
007

These are what I hope to see anyway

BustOWhollop

Grand Theft Auto 6
Forza Horizon 6
SAROS
Resident Evil Requiem
Mina the Hollower
Pragmata OR 007 First Light OR Pokopia

Saros ain't getting a GOTY nomination lol

I'm going
GTA VI
Resident Evil 9
007
Zelda
Forza Horizon 6
Mina the Hollower (for the indie pick)

Raysoul

In a better world Fire Emblem is nominated so that we could hear its main theme being played by Flute guy

GTA VI.
Ocarina of Time Remake.
Wolverine.
Resident Evil 9.
Forza Horizon 6.
Mina.

MADSUPERVILLAIN

Keighley will redeem himself for snubbing BRAZILIAN DRUG DEALER 3: I OPENED A PORTAL TO HELL IN THE FAVELA TRYING TO REVIVE MIT AIA I NEED TO CLOSE IT last year and BRAZILIAN DRUG DEALER BEFORE 4: DEMONS FROM THE PORTAL TO HELL I OPENED ARE STILL IN THE FAVELA AND NOW I HAVE TO SAVE MAMADAS FROM RONALDO will sweep.

ChaserX

Definitely feels like a year without obvious choice for the winner compared to the last three. As for nominees, think it'll look something like:

  • Resident Evil: Requiem
  • Grand Theft Auto VI
  • Phantom Blade Zero
  • Forza Horizon 6
  • Mina the Hollower
  • Pokopia or First Light 007

TheOneByron

My 6 predictions:
- Grand Theft Auto VI(It's gonna sweep a lot of categories & it seems like the obvious winner)
- Mina the Hollower(the indie nominee)
- Wolverine(the Sony nominee)
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake(the Nintendo nominee)
- Control: Resonant(Remedy usually gets nominated for TGA's GotY given their track record)
- Pragmata(I think this will get the nod over RE9: Requiem)

Bing147

1. Resident Evil Requiem
2. GTA6
3. Control Resonant
4. Wolverine
5. Zelda OoT
6. Pokopia

I could see any of Fire Emblem, Castlevania, Silent Hill, or 007 First Light sneaking into those final spots though. A couple of months ago I'd have said Mina but I don't think its stayed in the conversation enough and the reception by the public has been more mixed than with critics.

My dark horses are Kena 2 and Galactic Racer.

carlsojo

What's the cutoff this year?

I assume you forgot a /s in there somewhere.

Pellegri Testament

Keep in mind it's very likely GTA 6 will miss the juror nomination process.

GTA could come out a week before the awards and they'd make an exception for it, it's going to sweep everything.

TheOneByron

What's the cutoff this year?

We don't know, but since it's usually 3 weeks before the show itself, I'd imagine the cutoff date would probably be around November 19th or 20th, so GTA VI would just make the cutoff

Huncho_Houdini

Of the ones released so far:

1) RE9
2) Pokopia

Of the ones still to release:
1) GTA 6
2) OOT (if it's a big scope remake and not 1:1)

Everything else is up in the air.

Your Wallet is Safe With Me!

GTA and a bunch of runner-ups.

werezompire

- Pragmata(I think this will get the nod over RE9: Requiem)

I think the chance that Pragmata gets a TGA GotY nomination is extremely unlikely, but Pragmata getting a TGA GotY over RE9 is outright not happening.

SlayerSaint

I think the only lock so far is Requiem, which would also win GOTY if it was voted on right now, not so coincidentally. GTA 6 is also a lock, yes, even if it has a disappointing launch or whatever there's no way they don't nominate it. Disappointing launch would result in not winning, but it'll 100% be nominated.

My final 6 prediction would be:
-Grand Theft Auto 6
-Resident Evil Requiem
-Control Resonant
-Marvel's Wolverine
-Forza Horizon 6
-007 First Light

Pokopia is my GOTY of what I've played so far (doubt it ends that way) but I don't think it gets nominated. OoT Remake will take First Light's place if it's a true remake that stands on its own compared to the original.

Rowsdower

1. GTA6
2. Resident Evil 9
3. Control Resonant
4. Pokopia

These four I feel are locks.

Forza Horizon 6, Wolverine, Saros, OOT Remake, Fire Emblem, 007, Crimson Desert are all potential picks to add to the list, but I don't think any of these are 100% right now.

Indie pick will probably go to Mina the Hollower, but it should go to Endacopia! Best game released this year.

hydrophilic attack

gta 6
mina the hollower
pokopia
control resonant
pragmata

the sixth game i am not sure about. maybe wolverine if it reviews well, but i'm not seeing that much hype for it

in my heart, cairn would get nominated

the duskbloods will be up there for me most likely, but i expect it will be too polarizing for a goty nomination at the keighleys

srrai

Mina, RE9, GTA6, Zelda OoT Remake, and the winner Phantom Blade ∅.

hydrophilic attack

forza horizon will not get nominated. nothing to do with whether it deserves to get nominated or not, but forza horizon never getting nominated is just too funny a running bit to be abandoned at this point

PucePikmin

Of the stuff that's been released so far this year (these aren't my picks, they're what I think Geoff will pick)...

- 007 First Light - This is right up Geoff's alley. He can use it to indulge his "This is the Oscars of video games!" pretentions, with, like, the orchestra doing a James Bond medley etc.
- Resident Evil Requiem - Capcom and Geoff are pretty buddy-buddy these days
- Mixtape - This is your token indie game
- Crimson Desert - No chance of winning, but Geoff will include it to prove he's down with a gamurz

- Add GTA VI and Zelda OoT, provided they come out on time, and that's your list.

Corv

What I think will be the nominees, but not necessarily what I'd pick:

GTA6
Requiem
007
Control
Fire Emblem
Mina

John Harker

MIXTAPE is hopefully there !

hydrophilic attack

also, i'm curious what will take most anticipated now that gta 6 won't be in contention. maybe ff7 revelation?

nanhacott

This will be the year he chooses violence, first he'll disqualify GTA because the budget is so huge that it isn't fair to have it compete, and then give GOTY to Big Walk.

GTA 6 sweep. Case close.

geoff doesn't decide which games get nominated

Erroneous Teapot

Zero interest in seeing the AAAs which have already gotten their flowers, but will be interested in seeing what indies get in. Meccha Chameleon?

Charpunk

GTA6 could release the last day of nominations and everyone who votes for this thing will pick it because it's GTA.

This time I don't see any game beating GTA.

Nintenleo XIV

Grand Theft Auto VI
Resident Evil Requiem
Pokopia
Big Walk
Control Resonant
I guess Phantom Blade 0

TheOneByron

I would be shocked if any "friendslop"(GOD I hate that term, but that's what most people call them nowadays sigh) games gets even a whiff of a nomination for any category except maybe multiplayer game(if they don't fill it with non-2026 live service games) considering most of the media outlets who nominate games for the awards don't really pay attention to those games

also, i'm curious what will take most anticipated now that gta 6 won't be in contention. maybe ff7 revelation?

Yeah that's probably the one that's gonna win that category
