A new alpha build for Star Citizen went live over the past weekend, and this one’s a little bit different in that it’s mostly focused around a new event that’s got several mission types to take on and a bunch of rewards to gather up for doing so all through the month.

The RSI Discovery Month event provides various missions that fall into one of three categories: defense, transport, and collection. Clearing missions within each category awards points, which are tallied to a personal grand total as well as a total for that category, which in turn unlocks various tiers of rewards. Some of the goodies on offer include components, armor, weapons, ship paints, and flight blades.

There’s a special reward that can be unlocked as well in the form of a five-day rental of the Constellation Mk V Centaurus, along with its companion Skylark snub fighter. Players will be able to try out this soon to be released vehicle ahead of time if they complete a Constellation rental offer mission during the event, while anything else earned from participating is kept forever.

In addition to the month of RSI-branded spaceship activity, the build also brings a rebalancing for shields, an overhaul for physics netowrking, several experimental VR updates, and a massive lineup of fixes that CIG had likely referenced in its earlier September dev report. You can read the patch notes for yourself to get all of the nitty gritty, while an FAQ for the Discovery Month event can be read here.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2026, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $1B from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
