Ah, that's why I had unlimited ammo...

The Coalition has acknowledged the reason behind recent server issues with Gears of War: E-Day as being a targeted DDoS attack, which caused various connection drops, sign-in issues, and other server interference.

The official Gears Community Twitter/X account posted about the attacks this morning, stating: "These issues were due to distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting our online services".

The team appears to be monitoring the situation in the hope of mitigating any future activity of the sort, rounding up their post by thanking the community for its patience as they get to work.

If you're unfamiliar with a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack, it's when someone attempts to crash a server by bombarding it with fake traffic, clogging it up and pushing the servers to breaking point. If you were playing E-Day during the attack, this is likely what caused random disconnections, horrible ping drops, and other weird visual issues like rubber-banding and stuttering.

Hopefully, The Coalition gets this sorted promptly, because there's nothing worse than having your killstreak cucked because some arse decided to ruin the game for everyone.
