One of the things Blizzard has been trying to do with World of Warcraft Forever is listen to player feedback.
Sometimes it works out: after massive nerfs to the XP gained from killing enemies in dungeons, they gave it a much-needed buff. Other times, it doesn't quite work out; the XP gained from dungeon enemies is arguably still not enough, even after that buff.
Last week on the official WoW: Forever podcast, the topic of RP PVP servers came up. These are a server type that features stricter guidelines to help players immerse themselves in a roleplaying environment while also featuring the PVP ruleset of being able to attack people of opposing factions at all times.
At the time, Josh Greenfield, also known as Aggrend, the Senior Game Designer at Blizzard Entertainment for WoW: Forever, said that we shouldn’t be expecting to see RP PVP servers when Forever launches on November 4th. Just a week later, Blizzard appears to be singing a different tune.
RP PVP Realms Are Officially Coming to World of Warcraft: Forever
On social media this morning, the official World of Warcraft account reminded players to make sure they’re ready for Name Reservations on October 27th.
In short, Name Reservations will allow players to both claim their desired character names and customize their characters ahead of the full launch. This will also be a chance for players to select the ruleset they’d like to play. Normal, PVP, or RP. (Hardcore will not be available until a later date). It turns out, though, that you can indeed choose RP PVP servers.
"RP-PVPers - thank you so much for the feedback and comments on this," said Johnny Cash, Principal Game Designer II on WoW: Forever. "We’re working hard to make it so that you can reserve names on the Roleplay-PvP ruleset next week when our Name Reservation period begins on Tuesday, October 27th."
The topic of RP PVP realms has been one of the more hotly debated features of World of Warcraft: Forever. It was a noticeable omission from realm types back when the game was revealed at BlizzCon earlier this year. Greenfield mentioned that they weren't too happy with how RP PVP realms shook out during the Season of Discovery game mode and were concerned there weren't enough legs to support RP PVP servers on Forever.
Essentially, Blizzard felt that most RP PVP servers just became another PVP server with little to no roleplay. There was, however, one exception during Classic WoW's launch in 2019: Grobbulous. It looks like the Grobb mob came out victorious here. As you can imagine, players are thrilled with the announcement.
Blizzard Recently Launched a Stress Test in Preparation For Forever's Launch
It's hard to believe that November 4th is almost here. As the WoW: Forever beta winds down, Blizzard recently held a Stress Test to see how the game's servers would perform when Forever officially launches.
As you'd expect, there were mixed results. While I was having a surprisingly smooth experience on the normal server in Durotar on my Orc Hunter, others complained about the game being unplayable, especially as an Undead.
Then again, with all the hype around Undead Paladins, it's not surprising to see a lot of people test them out during the Stress Test. We'll see how the game holds up when it goes live on November 4th.
