Starship Troopers: Extermination's Update 13 Introduces Flying Arachnids for the Game's Second Anniversary

Starship Troopers: Extermination’s war against the bug menace is far from over. With Update 13, arriving just in time to celebrate the co-op first-person shooter’s second anniversary, flying Arachnids are finally here.
Developer and publisher Offworld announced today, October 21, the flying bugs will be crashing the anniversary party when they arrive on October 22 through Update 13. Yes, that’s literally tomorrow!
“Introduced in the first Starship Troopers film (1997), Hopper Bugs are the fast-moving, winged counterparts to Warrior Bugs. They prey on isolated Troopers with sudden swooping attacks, grabbing victims and carrying them away. Their speed and ability to reach exposed positions make them a dangerous reminder that high ground offers little protection when the enemy can fly.”
According to Offworld, the Hoppers will be deployed in all missions, adding a new layer of “vertical combat pressure” to Starship Troopers: Extermination’s already stressful battles against the hordes of bugs. It’s also been noted that, like in the movie, Hoppers can potentially crush troopers on the ground after they’re shot down, so get out of the way, soldier!
Alongside the new free content drop (as well as fixes and tweaks), Offworld and Knights Peak are releasing the Gore Supporter Pack for $4.99 / €4.99. It’s a cosmetic bundle which includes the following:

- Gore Uniform Palette
- Gore Nameplate: Emblem
- Gore Nameplate: Frame
- Gore Nameplate: Background

Last but not least, Offworld has also confirmed support is “far from over”, with plans for further updates and content going into 2027 (the original film’s 30th anniversary is coming) and beyond. Despite some ups and downs, the 16-player co-op shooter has grown a dedicated community, so it’s nice to see this level of support for an FPS flying under many radars.
