Two Fighters, One Hero
Inspired by Japanese folklore, Kintaro arrives in Reverie as a brave, supernaturally strong hero determined to push back the Nightmare. Raised in the mountains by the ogress Yama-Uba, he remains untouched by the corruption affecting the other heroes.
His most interesting feature, however, is the way he fights. Kintaro can switch between riding Kuma and battling on foot alongside his companion, effectively giving players two combat styles to master.
Mounted on Kuma, Kintaro can tear through enemies with powerful claw attacks, charge across the battlefield and use a mighty battle cry to block incoming attacks. Fight on foot, meanwhile, and Kintaro swings his enormous axe while Kuma automatically attacks nearby foes. You can also direct the bear’s movements, adding a tactical element to positioning both fighters.
They share a health bar, but damage dealt to Kuma becomes Internal Damage for Kintaro. Switching back onto his companion gradually restores those wounds, making positioning an important part of surviving the Nightmare.
More Than A New Face
The DLC includes Kintaro’s own abilities, Talents and two Ultimates, alongside seven exclusive outfits and seven narrated Memories following his journey across Reverie.
There’s more happening across Ravenswatch, too. A major update reworks hero Talents, with abilities rebalanced, combined, added or removed. The changes aim to give all heroes new ways to approach combat, offering returning players fresh opportunities to experiment with their builds.
We awarded Ravenswatch 4.5/5 in our review, praising its engaging combat, varied characters and rewarding progression. As we noted, the game has the potential to convert players into roguelike enthusiasts.
Kintaro looks like a fitting addition to that roster. With two fighting styles to juggle and Kuma doing plenty of the heavy lifting, the latest hero offers a compelling reason to return to Reverie – preferably with a good grip on that axe.
Pick up the DLC right now from the usual stores. We’ll point you to the Xbox Store.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
