Fans petitioned to get Battlefront 3 made, and a new listing suggests Disney might do it
For a long time, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the 2017 version) was a huge flop. Then it saw a resurgence thanks to renewed interest in the franchise overall. Suddenly, it became massively popular and got a rare second wind. Some updates certainly helped, and it remains a pretty popular game today. After nine years, that’s significant for a video game.
Unfortunately for players, there has been no word on a sequel despite the resurgence. The immense popularity didn’t lead EA to start working on another game in the long-running franchise. That led people to start a legitimate petition to get the developers to work on a third title.
As with most petitions, it was ignored. Despite strong interest, EA and DICE had no plans for a third game. However, based on a new report, it looks like Disney, which owns Star Wars, might be pursuing the market for a developer to make Battlefront 3.
New report suggests Disney might be shopping for Battlefront 3 developers
In 2025, someone started a petition, urging EA to make Star Wars Battlefront 3. It gained a lot of traction (almost 18,000 signatures) and even received coverage from notable news outlets. Unfortunately, EA, DICE, and Disney had no real incentive to respond. This wasn’t the first time someone had made such a plea, so they ignored it.

While there’s been no official word (and it can’t actually be traced back to the petition), all the effort may not have been in vain. According to Insider Gaming, Disney is reportedly reaching out and putting out feelers to find a developer to make Battlefront 3. Longtime game designer Jeff Grubb picked up on the alleged feelers.
Based on those feelers, two studios seem to be the frontrunners for the task: EA DICE and Bungie. DICE, of course, made the game that sparked this interest. DICE has also developed several Battlefield titles. Bungie is best known for the Destiny games, but it also developed Halo games back in the 2000s. Bungie also did Marathon, one of the most popular 2026 titles.
Neither of these is a big surprise. Disney has a relationship with DICE, and the company has made the last two Star Wars games in the Battlefront series. There’s a history and a good track record there. Bungie has experience with both shooters and live-service games, so it’s an obvious fit, too. Both developers have had some issues, but they are generally in good standing, so fans have no reason to be concerned.
None of EA, Lucasfilm, or Bungie have commented on these reports. So for now, nothing is concrete. But all the fans who signed the petition and are begging for a third game might see light at the end of the tunnel soon.
