Greetings, Terrarians!

We are aware of an issue on Xbox systems which is causing saved data (players, worlds etc.) to disappear from the game, sometimes reappearing much later. We should stress that these save files are still intact on your system, however; the main problem is to do with displaying them.

We have been attempting to locate the main cause behind why, but are at a stage now where we need some more info. If you're experiencing this issue, the following details would be much appreciated:

  • What's your gamertag? (we can use this to verify that your files are indeed still present)
  • When this issue first started happening for you, was it after a cloud storage sync?
  • Which Xbox systems have you played Terraria on in the past? What about currently?
    • i.e Series S/X, One / One S, 360
  • Are there are any save files present on your system from before 1.3, or from before 1.4?
  • How much Saved Data does Terraria have?
    • You can check this by pressing the menu button over the app and navigating to "Manage game and add-ons" > "Saved data"
  • How much remaining system storage does your Xbox have?
    • You can check this in Settings > System > Storage devices > Internal Storage
  • Does booting the game offline display any previously invisible files?

We apologize for how pervasive this issue has been for some players, and appreciate your patience as we zero in on a fix. We hope to have more to share soon.

Hey. I've been having this bug tonight on my Xbox One S and wanted to check in to report the issue as well. It's not just a Series X/S thing, apparently.

User is Cloe6897. Yes, this happened after my Xbox tried to sync data and failed, telling me that I was out of save data (I deleted some data and the issue still persisted.) I owned Terraria on my 360 a long time ago, but that's irrelevant to my current Xbox. There are no save files I know of that are before 1.3. It's saying that I have 0.0kb of save data on Terraria, which is odd. My system storage has about 260gb left. Finally, no, going offline doesn't change anything, it just skips the syncing data part and continues as if I was a new player with no data.

Hope this helps in any way.

Edit: I just tried other games to see if it was a problem on my entire console. Everything else works fine and I have the save data on those, it's just Terraria acting out.

Thanks for the details - this has given me a lot to go off of. One thing I'll also ask, do you know approximately how many players / worlds you had prior to this occurring? Just trying to get a sense of how much data was saved there & whether that plays any part.

I am having the same issue it started around 3 days ago, my user is SEBASS6557, I play on the series S, I have no save files from previous versions, there is 11mb of saved data on my Xbox for terraria, my Xbox has 156.4 GB of storage left, and the world's and characters do not show back up offline. Please tell me it I still have all my stuff still on there, the world I had on there was named Idk and the character I was playing on was named Sebass

Edit- I got my world back but my character isn't back o really need to know if I still have it in my data

I lost all my worlds like you said just a couple days ago and I’m looking to get them back my gamertag is realistic555 it deleted like a couple nights ago I currently play on Xbox series s but I’ve played on Xbox one and 360 and I have no idea why it did this but I would like my worlds back

the newest world I just made after about 12 hours of progress, I saved and quit, and when I returned to menu restarted my terraria game on the XBOX SERIES S, which has been happening to lots of others on this console, my save file completely dissapeared, after re-syncing files opening the game on my friends Xbox on my account the world would not appear and still will not, my gamertag is Cinnamonze#9512, and only 2 players have played on the world, it dissapeared after being loaded as a multiplayer server

First time poster, I’ve run into this issue and I appreciate seeing such a detailed breakdown!

- I’m playing on XBOX Series S through Game Pass

- Gamertag: gundaddyg

- Issue started 11/27/2025 (Opened terraria on my Xbox, ‘syncing files’ load screen took way longer than usual, I was finally greeted by the home screen as normal. But, after selecting any of my characters, I’m prompted to fill out the pop-up used to create a new world, I can’t see any of my saved worlds.

- There are zero saved worlds I can view across any versions.

- Following the saved data instructions. My end shows 7.1MB of saved data present on my console. This is saved on my internal storage that has a free space amount of 68.8GB.

- Terraria Version: 4.4.14.1357

- Unfortunately, I can’t boot the game offline due to I am playing the game through Game Pass.

I hope this issue gets resolved, feel free to contact me for anymore information.

Happy Thanksgiving!

**EDIT/UPDATE**: I went ahead and closed out every game in the ‘Quick Resume’ state on my console, restarted the console, booted Terraria, and everything is back to normal including all of my saved worlds. Keep in mind, I restarted my console many times with no saved games repopulating. It was only after I closed every quick resume game and restarted the console that my saves reappeared. Phew.

I’ve had this issue on my Xbox series S, it started in May 2025. My gamertag is legomaster12006. In addition to my worlds sometimes not appearing. My main world (created pre 1.4 in 2021 on an Xbox one S) has had its save file reset at least a few years. Meaning, any progress that I’ve made on the world within the last 2-3 years has been all but wiped away. My terraria currently has 118.0 MB of saved data. Sometimes booting the game offline and forcing it to sync files makes my worlds appear again. But nothing has been able to bring back the progress on my main world.

I’ve been running into this issue as well.

Gamertag is XeroxSpectre

Xbox Series S

Version: 4.4.14.1357

I was able to play for about 2 days, 4 hours each day, before all of my saves just vanished.

While offline, I can see all 3 of my worlds.

I did the “quick resume” fix that was mentioned above, and that instead restored 1 world that I had saved, and only 1, where I had 3 saved prior. Notably, it did not restore a multiplayer world me and my partner have been working tirelessly in. A fix or any update or potential solution would be appreciated!

I found an unorthodox solution, and even then it doesn’t work all the time and it isn’t a permanent fix. I have to do this process every time I wanna enter my world.

Step 1: Launch the game while online - No worlds saved.
Step 2: Without closing Terraria, navigate to Xbox Settings and Go offline. Quickly navigate back to Terraria.
Step 3: This part requires that you have at least 1 other Xbox account signed in other than yours. Switch users to the second account, and then immediately switch back to your account.
Step 4: Your saves should be accessible. I’ve found that from here, I can enter the world and turn the internet back on to enable multiplayer, but again I have to do this process every time.

Hi there,

I’ve just had this issue today and I only started my Character (only 1) and world (only 1) with my partner a few days ago

We have put in lots of effort just to log on and for my character and the world (on my account) to be gone. We have been trying to fix it for the past 6 hours and nothing and I feel absolutely defeated right now.

My Gamertag is: CourtneyCram04

Quick info: x1 world, x1 character and x2 people have been playing as single player split screen on Xbox Series S

Hey I just started a new world with a new character and got up to after beating eow, I tried to open the treasure bag (the world is mastermode) and it won't let me open it, then I closed the game and reopened it to find this same issue of all of my world being gone, and reguardless of what I do it just asks me to create a new world as if my other worlds are gone.

My gamertag on Xbox is slumpty pie, and I have a maxed out finished expert save, and this new save I started, the worlds do load when I go offline, but Xbox kicks me off the game after playing for a few minutes, telling me that i need to be on the internet. Less important but; that treasure bag still doesn't open even if I play offline 😂

Gamertag is SamuKube,
This storage was many years ago for me, it was replaced by a world I had played in multiplayer.
This issue has only occured on xbox one s for me i have since switched to pc (had no issues)
I only played before 1.4 the worlds were also corrupted before 1.4 and I'm curious if the same issue of not displaying them may be present.
Terraria has 72.3 MB of saved data
I have 55.4 GB free which means my system is 84.8% full
Booting offline doesnt change anything

This issue occured in 2018 I think, as I said the "file" (the world name is still there but when I open it a different world is there) was replaced with a world from a friend but it has bugged out textures. I tried to get this issue resolved at the time but I didn't receive any help (I was very young so I didn't know how to find it)

The problem started today when I tried the new update. Every time I close the game the worlds I create disappear. This seems to reverse itself when I restart the console, and it only happens on the Xbox Series S, since I tested it on the Xbox One and it seems to work fine.

DIGIRAZER
Started today after 1.4.5 update
In the past ive played it on Xbox one x but now I play it on a series s
Maybe some save files before 1.4
Terraria has 70.3 MB of data
My system has 45.7 GB of storage left.
Rebooting while offline restored some but not all and when I rebooted again all were gone again
I had about 7 worlds before this happened

Edit: I loaded up the game the next morning and my worlds were there hopefully it stays that way.

My gamertag is eepyfoxle but i changed it multiple times. in order starting from TopazMarrow9744 ToxicNinja9744 Pixle 42 eepyfoxle
im not sure when it started, but when i loaded terraria 1/16/26 my saves were gone after a cloud sync. they had already transferred to my new xbox without issue and i played terraria on it before, i burned out for a while and came back just for the data to sync for no reason and wipe everything.
I started on the xbox series S but transferred my files to a Series X. they transferred fine before the wipe.
i didnt play before 1.3 but i remember playing after 1.4 came out.
my save data.. is 0.0gb. there is nothing.
i have 66.7 gb free.
the game is still empty when i boot offline.
please help.. i did so much

I need help because my Main character was set back years. I had 77 hours and its 5. One of my worlds glitched and now every time I log, its either a world and now its my character. I saved the cloud, uninstalled, restarted my console and my character is still not there. My tag is Evilnickcage on xbox series s and it happened to me recently.

I’ve gotten this issue, my user is trypticon98, I am currently on Xbox series, this happened because my game froze, I was in multiplier with my mate

I have this issue on Xbox series S. It just started after 1.4.5, and I can sometimes get all worlds to appear after multiple restarts, but otherwise it feels random which worlds will appear on the list. I have worlds dating back to 2020, and if anything it seems like the older worlds are more likely to show up.

Hi there! I just hit this issue after my game with a friend crashed while I was in the Jungle

    • Shows one old world but not all

Hi, I also just tonight experienced this problem. I sorted a chest in my "World 3" that I've had since 2021, and it crashed my game. I reloaded thinking nothing of it, only to come back to no worlds at all. I deleted and reinstalled Terraria, found I had my worlds back, but my "World 3" had been totally reset back to when I only had the guide. Everything was gone, hours of work, deleted. I'm not sure what happened, I sent a ticket to 505, but I don't know if that'll help. I just want my world back. This just started happening tonight, my gamertag is CrazyBanatic, I play on Xbox Series S, and I have 13.1 MB of saved data for Terraria. I still have 74 gigabytes free for storage on my xbox as well. Please help!!
