《Metaphor ReFantazio》迎来发售两周年(10月11日)
Metaphor ReFantazio is now 2 years old (Oct 11).
How you feeling about it 2 years later?
I like it quite a bit tho it feels like its missing something. The world doesn't have much going on. It reminds me of P3/P4 in its emptiness. I also wish the side dungeons weren't so dull *puts up shield* I hope it gets an expanded rerelease. It really needs it.

The further we get from the games release the less I like it and I can't see myself ever playing it again. I loved it at the time, but looking back on it I just have so many problems with the game in hindsight.
It's one of those games that was less than the sum of its parts. I came in with moderate expectations but I was very ready for it to be over by the time credits rolled.
ATLUS WHERE THE HELL IS THE EXTENDED EDITION SO I CAN HAVE MORE SCENES WITH BASILIO, PLEASE?????

Being sued right now, please help me find a lawyer
Honestly, the more I think about it the more I like it. I feel like it's crazy underrated now compared to the Persona games, and it has one of the best parties in all RPGs.
Best Atlus JRPG in this decade
I loved it, but my two main criticisms of the game are stuff that I know for sure don't annoy others as much as me, but I hated the fact that everyone could change their archetype. That meant that I had to grind out a lot, and honestly I prefer each MC having their own specialization, so I can pick the party based on that (I know they have their ultimte Archetype, but still, I felt like there was too much choice). Plus, the fact that you can easily do 100% in your first run, unlike the Persona games which usually require guides for that, I beat it and felt like I was completely done. Plus, the fact that NG+ doesn't give you your utlimate Archetypes is nuts.
It's a really good game but I'm not gonna lie Atlus really made it hard for me to play because of their prior behavior regarding updated versions. The entire tome I played I was thinking "what if this one annoying thing gets fixed in a FES edition or the story gets improved here" and I never ended up finishing. Got it for free at least.
Happy second birthday to the best turn-based RPG I've ever played then
It was pretty, pretty, prettyyyyyyy good
Loved it but the story kinda has a disappointing ending to me in regards to the politics.
One of the greatest RPGs in the past decade, taking on all of the learnings from the iteration of the Persona games, and winds up elevating itself over the series it spawned from. An incredible cast, soundtrack, dialogue, combat and progression system, and setting. I think the criticisms of the plot in the latter fifth are overblown, even as I agree that there's a valid argument that it does weaken...but I would argue it is more consistent than the back fifth of each Persona game, so it's a trend for the developers, really. I look forward to a sequel, and I think about the game quite frequently in the meantime -- it really has stayed with me.
Amongst my favourite RPGs of all time, such a shame we'll probably never get an enhanced edition.
Just good but very disappointing. Music was a nothing burger

"This guy are sick"
It's like, really good, but it didn't leave an impact on me.
They really should've locked in on the whole "It's fiction, a metaphor" thingie
Great game - replay value is not so high but really enjoyed the journey
I hope it gets an expanded rerelease. It really needs it.
I've been waiting for it.
I played it, finished it, and barely remember it. The biggest reminder I have of it is the figure of Gallica I have have sitting on my shelf (which is also one of the two figures I have where one of the pegs broke just trying to get it in properly...).
Game is a checklist of what JRPG fans expect out of a "good" JRPG, hence the 94 metacritic.
Personally, I think it's one of the least interesting Atlus games I've played, and its safe approach is a far cry from the ambition they spoke of when they first announced the project. They obviously bit off more than they could chew, ran into development hell, and had to rest on their laurels in the end.
I just fear they're going to learn some bad lessons from this game's lack of sales momentum.
Bought it day one, maybe I should actually play it...
This was the only game I finished in the last 2 years. Phenomenal game, I want to do a replay soon.
Congrats to an amazing game! Top 3 rpg this generation maybe?
I guess we really aren't getting more content…guess I'm safe to replay it
The only one of the games in this style from Atlus that I have yet to finish. It's just aggressively dull and somehow the combat completely failed for me despite enjoying both Press Turn and Persona combat systems.
One thing I love so much about Metaphor that I feel isn't praised enough is Atlus trying for the first time to blend their calendar system shenanigans with the classic Jrpg globethrotting journey. Despite its obvious problems (Teleporting breaking the trip immersion and stuff), it feels so cool and unique, in a way I want a lot more games trying this.
The battle system is a great iteration of the press turn combat, the characters are great, and the world is incredible.
Unfortunately the story jumps the shark in the last story arc, and the job system has a "canon" problem, but that's it, incredible game regardless.
I have a portable version preordered and looking forward to finally play it!
I feel it stuck too closely to the "Persona" structure of gameplay (calendar, social links, etc.) and for some reason I got wicked motion sickness during battles. Love the original takes on fantasy tropes and of course the music is top notch. Personally also preferred the "class" type of gameplay as opposed to the creature collector of the persona series.
I DNF'd it because it got to be too boring from both a gameplay and story perspective. it was fine but they played it way too safe.
Arguably my favorite Atlus title post 2000s. Also possibly the best version of press turn they have ever done. Now that we saw how well press turn works in a persona-esque container I so wholeheartedly wish they would ditch one more for persona 6 because it's a massively inferior battle system.
Probably going to pick it up on switch to play again.
This game was way overhyped. Atlus was promising some kind of fantasy game we've never seen before and we got Persona re skinned with the same bad writing full of nonsense. How the hell did it get a 94 on metacritic?

Yep. Persona 3/4/5's battle system is just a watered down press turn anyway, no reason they can't just use the actual goat system for P6 onwards.
Two years? Wow. Maybe it's finally safe for me to buy it since a FES/Golden/Royale with Cheese edition probably would have already come out by now.
I'm very excited to play it.
Best Atlus game since P5. Hashino does not miss.

Kinda felt the same, was disappointed to find yet again social links and a calendar system.
I was disappointed that it brought over so many mechanics from Persona, particularly when they didn't make sense with the rest of the game design.
When they introduced that nonsensical teleportation stuff for the sake of keeping traditional S.Links it was clear they were just following a formula without a cohesive creative vision.
Beat the Redscale Dragon and finally got all achievements today funnily enough. Loved the characters, setting and battle system. Story kinda got weak towards the end but still enjoyed it. Hope there's a follow up someday.
I played it on launch and played it a month ago to completion again.
It's a really solid game, but the last act felt a bit rushed. The first 2/3rds of the game really developed and fleshed out the cast, their individual stories and the world and then the plot just sort of speedruns itself from the opera onwards. Almost like the dev team had ran out of time and budget.
Dungeons also felt very samey throughout.
The setting and premise was a lot more interesting than the Persona games, I will give it that.
Sales for the game seem good (2.5m last time I checked) but it doesn't have the legacy of the Persona series to keep sales ticking along, so I wouldn't be surprised if if stalls somewhere between 3-4m once the Switch 2 version comes out next month.
no it's not, it just came out
One of my GOATs and favourite game this console generation. Love everything about it.
Played it on PS5 but never finished it. Day one for its Switch 2 release.

Was it? I distinctively remember ppl not really caring about the game until the demo came out and review scores started dropping.
I keep trying to play it. I was SOOO excited for it, and on paper I should love it.
But the UI is so hard for me to parse, at times it actually strains my eyes. It's truly the thing that makes me keep dropping it.

Royal was 3 years later.
Very fun gameplay loop, decent story that doesn't quite leave the Persona heritage behind.
It's great, but just like with Persona 5, I feel like the more time passes, the more people start to recognize its flaws, the "wow" effect is gone.

Thays what I'm referring to. The way people were talking about the game at the time was with much more positivity and excitement than it warranted.
And I feel it pretty quickly dropped off the face of the Earth and wasn't mentioned much after that. I would expect something that was getting that much positive attention at launch to have people talking about it for a long time.

It to this today only sold 2 million. It sold a million quickly and fell off. I regret my purchase. The calendar system was a hindrance to the overall game design.
I went to the concert yesterday in Texas. So I like the game enough to fly out for the concert.
This game is tough for me to handle mostly because I can't disassociate the game from the actual election we had here in the U.S. and how poorly it went. Any semblance of optimism I had while playing this was sapped. I got through the game, but I cannot play it again due to the association my mind made with elections.

Ppl keep saying Metaphor bombed and I don't get it. Its still selling faster than OG Persona 5. it took P5 Royal for P5 to cross 3 million. The mega success of Persona 5 came later in its life post covid. P5 is an anomaly in ATLUS catalog.
