Xbox 实体游戏收藏需求上升,但为时已晚

Xbox physical collecting is on the rise, even if it's too little too late

This video was on my feed the other day and it had me thinking about the current state of Xbox Physical.
I've always been big about Physical Media in any form, so I collect and keep tabs on all of the main platform up and downs.

Most know that as a whole, Xbox has always been the platform the least amount of people have collected for.
However, it seems there has definitely been a rise in the market as of late and the low print runs are starting to be far more noticeable.

Some Examples from the video
- Fatal Frame 2 Remake (Sold Out Everywhere)
- Oblivion Remastered (Sold Out Everywhere)
- Halo Campaign Evolved (Sold Out Everywhere, with a restock that went out quickly as well)

This doesn't even get into other titles such as Sifu which just seemingly vanish even on the second-hand market.
Not to mention how odd it is that Titles like Halo and Oblivion really have no reason to be "Sold Out" on Xbox, even with their inclusion on Gamepass.

In the past it was very uncommon for any Xbox Physical release to "sell out". Xbox was always the platform where physical options typically remained and potentially even ended up on sale more than the other platforms. Now, Xbox is most likely to be the console that sells out when it comes to physical and the chances of a restock are far slimmer than others. Another piece of evidence i've seen in the recent uptick is that Woot/Gamefly Sales will also see the Xbox Titles sell out quickly, which used to be the copies that would last the longest during any of their sales.

If I were to guess it's a few things all cramming into one another as
Low Print Runs + Disc to Digital + Increased Market Demand = Not enough copies to go around with the numbers that used to be just fine for the market at hand.

While part of this is likely due to PS5 stating they're pulling out (While Xbox has given no official word yet), it's a shame it took them this long to figure out a way to bolster their physical sales. Disc to Digital should've been something the Series systems saw at launch IMO. Being able to say 'Hey, you can get a Series S and use your Xbox one to make all your physical games digital" seems like it would've been a good selling point to me.

TL:DR - As with other platforms seeing issues with Physical Releases as of late, Xbox is seeing even more Demand/Strain due to multiple factors. Factors that could've been alleviated far earlier if ideas like Disc to Digital were there far earlier in the gen.

In Halo's case, it's the last 343 game, probably the last game before a full reboot - meaning a new team, new (voice) actors etc. It's also potentially the last physical Halo game. I can see why some would like to have a copy.

I was originally going to hold off on getting Onimusha because I was waiting for a discount but it sold out pretty quickly. It had a recent restock at Best Buy so I bought it.

I wonder how things would've been if D2D launched with the Series X

I saw the vid as well and some of the prices were shocking. Fatal Frame 2 going for 300 is crazy and it's expensive on Switch 2 as well(130+).

Kind of worried it's gonna create a speculative market around certain releases now. Buying it in hopes it's a low print run to resell.

Just out of curiosity, I was just checking my Xbox collection on Gameye, and apparently my copy of Spikeout: Battle Street is worth $250???

I have no intention of selling any of my games (bury me with my games like I'm a goddamn Pharoah), but it's wild to see what prices some of these games go for now.

Honestly, quite a few games, even outside of Xbox, have skyrocketed in value over the last 10-20 years. It's kind of wild. Some of the games in my collection are worth, like, 8x what I paid for them 20 years ago.

How can Halo already be out of stock 😂

Quacktion

The disc-to-digital still blows my mind, probably the most pro-consumer thing any of the big companies ever pulled. Love it.

MS makes very few physical copies of games. It's that simple.

Unshakable Resolve - Prophet of Truth

Yeah it took me forever to find a copy of Blood of the Dawnwalker and Hellraiser is the same way. Xbox Series games are weirdly hard to find even for new releases.

Prophet Five

I got a physical copy of Xbox One Transformers Devastation recently and I'm thrilled. PLEASE update it to unlock the PC version.

Keiriks

Xbox games were taken off the shelves entirely here several years ago so clearly we're talking not only low print runs but also regional print runs.

demi

Is this only affecting more recent releases? There's plenty of games available for cheaper on Xbox

I've had a Series X and a PS5 since launch (though I have a PS5 Pro now) but I don't have a large One/Seeies collection despite being a physical gamer (MINUS RARE REPLAY - FUCK YOU FOR NOT ADDING GOLDENYE AS A DOWNLOAD FOR THE DOSC VERSION. RUDE.)

For whatever reason, we bought most of our stuff on PS5 which is funny because we've both agreed we aren't getting a PS6. (Maybe won't get a Helix either but that's, currently, a potential cost thing even if we could "afford" it)
