Planet Zoo 2 Update 1.0.4 arrives on October 14, 2026, at 2 p.m. BST, introducing several important fixes for Frontier Developments’ recently released zoo management sequel (check out our review to see what we thought of it). Among the most notable improvements are fixes for Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR not functioning correctly, alongside a frustrating bug that caused custom key bindings to reset when accessing certain menus.

The update also addresses crashes, Franchise Mode stability, animal behavior and several construction tools. Frontier has acknowledged that some issues remain unresolved, particularly those involving animal navigation and interactions, which will continue to receive attention in future patches.

One of the biggest changes for PC players concerns Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, which were not functioning as intended when selected through the graphics menu. According to Frontier’s official Update 1.0.4 patch notes, both technologies should now work correctly, potentially improving the experience for players relying on upscaling to maintain smoother frame rates.

Although players had also reported problems with Frame Generation, Frontier’s notes specifically confirm fixes for DLSS and FSR rather than detailing a separate Frame Generation correction. The update additionally adjusts the Ultra graphics preset, which now sets Foliage Detail to Very High.

Another welcome change concerns custom key bindings, which previously reset when players opened the Hub, Animal Trading or Animal Storage menus. Update 1.0.4 fixes this behavior and adds a customizable shortcut for the Scale function under Object Placement Controls.

Several stability improvements have also been introduced, including fixes for crashes caused by rapidly entering and exiting the Hub, selecting multiple blueprints simultaneously or moving scenery out of a group. Frontier has also addressed an occasional hardlock involving the undo function while sculpting terrain.

Planet Zoo 2 Patch Improves Franchise Mode, Animals and Construction

Beyond PC performance and controls, Update 1.0.4 addresses several problems affecting Franchise Mode. Frontier has resolved multiple stability issues, increased access to initial animal trading volumes and fixed bugs involving juvenile shoal trading, Community Challenge information and Conservation Credit rewards.

Animal behavior has also received considerable attention, with improvements to navigation, climbing animations, enrichment interactions and breeding success rates. The update reduces the frequency of animals being automatically boxed and addresses some cases where animals incorrectly escape their habitats. Shoal welfare calculations, animal temperatures and Zoopedia information have also been adjusted.

Construction improvements include a reduction in the default angle-snapping increment from 15 degrees to 1 degree, fixes for habitat blueprints and object scaling, and expanded editable areas across several Sandbox maps. Players can now remove certain previously inaccessible buildings and scenery, including the car park on a Grassland map and the village on a Temperate map.

Other changes include reduced interest rates on smaller loans, improvements to Research menu navigation, fixes for Wildlife Reserve animal teleportation and additional avatar costumes unlocked through Career Mode. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players also receive platform-specific fixes, including how audio during career cinematics now pauses correctly when entering the console OS menu.

Frontier has emphasized that animal climbing, navigation, enrichment alignment and unexpected habitat escapes remain ongoing areas of development. Franchise Mode stability will also continue to be monitored following the latest fixes.

Update 1.0.4 represents an early attempt to address some of Planet Zoo 2’s most noticeable launch problems. For PC players, the corrections to DLSS, FSR and custom key bindings are particularly significant, while the wider improvements should help make zoo management, construction and animal care more reliable across all platforms.
