Battlefield 6 Dead Space Crossover Adds 16-Player PvE Mode and Halloween Rewards

Battlefield 6 has launched its Dead Space crossover event, introducing a new 16-player PvE mode, an iconic weapon from EA’s survival horror franchise and a selection of themed rewards. Called Dead Space: Convergence, the limited-time Halloween event began on October 20 and runs until November 10.

The crossover takes place beneath Area 51, where Pax Armata forces have uncovered a mysterious alien artifact known as a Marker. Its influence has spread throughout the military installation, turning soldiers against one another and threatening to trigger a catastrophic event known as Convergence.

According to EA’s official event guide, the crossover introduces Marker Incursion, a 16-player PvE experience in which squads fight through corrupted territory, eliminate waves of AI-controlled enemies and destroy Marker Shrines before the artifact’s influence spreads further.

The primary enemies are Marked Soldiers, former military personnel driven to violence by the Marker’s signal. Players must also locate and destroy smaller replicas of the artifact, which strengthen its influence and attract additional resistance.

The mode takes inspiration from Dead Space’s distinctive blend of science fiction and survival horror, although EA describes the crossover as a non-canon scenario rather than an official continuation of either franchise’s story.

Players can also get their hands on the DS-23 Pulse Rifle, which makes its Battlefield debut as a Battle Pickup. The weapon is available in Marker Incursion, Battle Royale and Rapid Royale throughout the event, bringing one of Dead Space’s most recognizable weapons into Battlefield 6.

Completing event challenges, eliminating Marked Soldiers and discovering collectibles in Battle Royale and Rapid Royale rewards players with Semiconductors, a limited-time currency that can be exchanged for Dead Space-themed cosmetics.

The rewards include:

  • Aegis VII Soldier Skin: Inspired by the engineering suits worn throughout the Dead Space series.
  • RIG-Certified SMG Weapon Skin: A weapon appearance based on Dead Space’s distinctive equipment.
  • USG Ishimura and Plasma Chatter Weapon Stickers: References to the iconic spaceship and Plasma Cutter.
  • Pride of the CEC Soldier Patch: Inspired by the Concordance Extraction Corporation.
  • Dead Space Player Card Background: Featuring imagery from the survival horror franchise.

Two additional cosmetic bundles, Strategic Dismemberment and Make Us Whole, are available through the in-game store.

EA has also included hidden references, strange transmissions and environmental storytelling throughout the event, encouraging players to explore the corrupted areas rather than simply eliminate enemies.

The crossover is available through Battlefield 6 and its free-to-play REDSEC experience, although players will need the latest game updates to participate.

Dead Space Crossover Follows Battlefield 6 Season 5’s Mixed Reception

The Halloween event arrives just one week after the launch of Battlefield 6 Season 5: Siege of Vegas, which went live on October 13 with two new maps, four weapons and several gameplay improvements.

Season 5 launched to mixed player reactions, particularly regarding the new Vegas Strip and Area 51 maps. While some players praised the environments and chaotic firefights, others criticized the maps’ layouts, limited interior spaces and balance between infantry and vehicles.

The Dead Space event makes use of Area 51, transforming the classified military installation into a horror-themed battlefield. It also provides a change of pace from Battlefield’s traditional competitive multiplayer modes, replacing human opponents with AI-controlled enemies and cooperative objectives.

It’s not the first time the two EA franchises have crossed paths. Battlefield 3 included a reference to Isaac Clarke’s helmet, while Battlefield Hardline featured several Dead Space Easter eggs. More recently, Battlefield 2042 introduced its own Dead Space-themed Outbreak event in July 2024.

There’s also a development connection between the franchises. EA Motive, the studio responsible for the 2023 Dead Space remake, is part of Battlefield Studios, the group of developers working on Battlefield 6.

Initial reactions to the new event have been mixed. Some players have welcomed the opportunity to experience a cooperative PvE mode, while others have questioned its longevity and reported problems accessing unlocked cosmetic rewards. In one Reddit discussion, players described completing the event’s reward challenges relatively quickly, with several also reporting that certain skins were not immediately appearing in their customization menus.

Beyond the crossover, Battlefield Studios has further Season 5 content planned for the coming weeks. The next major update, scheduled for November 10, will introduce the European Casino map and the Casino Heist event, followed by additional content in December.
