The Lady Greyhounds Take To The Pitch

The headline addition is the arrival of AFC Richmond Women, who make their EA SPORTS FC debut as part of the Women’s Rest of World category. The team is playable in Kick Off, Career Mode and Online Seasons, giving players several ways to get acquainted with the Lady Greyhounds.

Nelson Road is also back, meaning you can take to Richmond’s home ground and enjoy another visit to the iconic Dog Track.

For fans of the Apple TV+ comedy, it’s a welcome expansion of the fictional club’s place in the game. Richmond has always been about more than just the results, and bringing its women’s side into the mix gives players another way to create their own stories with the team.

Ted Lasso Returns To The Dugout

Career Mode is getting some particularly appealing additions. Players can step into Ted Lasso’s shoes and manage AFC Richmond Women, with themed challenges and deeper integration into the mode’s social media stories, cutscenes and touchline interactions.

That should give the experience a little more of the personality that made Ted such an entertaining character in the first place. After all, there’s more to management than picking a formation and hoping your striker remembers where the goal is.

Ultimate Team is also getting the Richmond treatment. Players can complete themed Objectives to unlock rewards including kits, stadium cosmetics, manager items and more. These Objectives will also contribute towards Season Progress, offering another route to additional rewards.

“Ted Lasso celebrates the power of football to bring people together, and that’s exactly what FC 27 is built for,” said Jeff Sharma, VP, Brand, EA SPORTS FC. “FC 27 gives players more ways than ever to play and connect, and AFC Richmond is the perfect club to welcome them in. Fans can take the pitch with its Women’s team in Kick Off, lead the Lady Greyhounds as Ted in Career Mode, and represent Richmond in their own Club in Football Ultimate Team. However you play, FC 27 and Ted Lasso are united by the belief that football is better together.”

There’s Always Room To Believe

The return of Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond is another reminder that football games can be about more than simply recreating the real-world league tables. Sometimes, a little fictional optimism is just what the dressing room needs.

We recently awarded EA SPORTS FC 27 a 4.5/5 review score, noting that attacking and defending feel smoother than last year, while AI teammates are less frustrating to manage.

With AFC Richmond Women now playable and Ted back in the dugout, there’s another reason to return to the pitch. Just remember the most important tactic of all: believe.
