《Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back》前瞻:TGS 2026 试玩体验
Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back Preview

When Lollipop Chainsaw was first released in 2012, it was a beloved hack-and-slash action-adventure game that combined fast-paced combat with cheesy dialogue and sexy imagery. At the time, many praised James Gunn (Marvel and DC writer) and Suda 51 (director) for their creative vision.
Now 15 years later, JP Universe and Dragami Games have announced Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back, but it will not feature the aforementioned creators that mainly contributed to the original game’s success. The big question on everyone’s mind is – can the new sequel hold up without the original writer and designer?
At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, we got invited to play the first public demo for Lollipop Chainsaw 2. For this demo, we were brought into a small room next to the Control: Resonant demo that had a few demo stations.

Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back takes place a few years after the events of the original game. Juliet Starling is back, accompanied by her decapitated boyfriend Nick, as she looks to uncover the mysteries behind a new zombie outbreak on a movie set in her former hometown.
San Romero has become a massive Film Industry town and has been renamed Jaredwood. A mysterious director has trapped Juliet and Nick in his new zombie movie, and the only way out is to uncover the mystery behind the new outbreak.

While the plot of the game may be interesting to some, many gamers are curious about other key elements such as gameplay, graphics, sound, and anything raunchy like in the first game. The combat felt smooth and polished compared to the original game, for those who have not played the original, the combat is similar to Bayonetta.
Sliding around in Lolipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back seems like a core mechanic. For the demo, it was the primary way to move around in the game, and it seemed like the developers wanted to show it off. The demo features a boss fight with a zombie woman who throws waves of present zombies at you.
You either have to guess correctly which box the zombie is in or have it open launching an explosive zombie at you. If you manage to select the right box (which has a glow above it) or skate through the boxes to attack the explosive zombies inside, they will redirect their attack to the boss instead.

Although the combat seems refined, there was one key issue that really stood out. Anytime that we would do a combination of attacks that would potentially result in Juliet flipping, the developers would force the camera angle to change in order to avoid an upskirt shot.
This quick camera angle change would try to make it appear as if it was just trying to show off Juliet’s combat prowess or acrobatics, but we know it was to avoid anything lewd. While we can see the developer’s intentions, the forced camera angles obscure the view but at times would cause us to be turned the wrong way, making combat needlessly more difficult.
Hopefully, the censorship aspect changes down the line as well, since it feels like they are changing a core element of the game as the original Lollipop Chainsaw really pushed its sex appeal. Maybe have Juliet call out players for being perverted rather than forcing weird camera angles mid-combat.

Visually, Lollipop Chainsaw 2 looks great, but it did feel like it would slow down when a lot of enemies were on screen at once. The boss in the demo was interesting, but having a two-stage boss for a short demo felt a bit weird; it didn’t seem like the developer gave the players enough time to truly experience what the demo had to offer.
The demo for Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back was rather short, coming in at ten minutes long, but it definitely seemed like the next installment in Lollipop Chainsaw could be interesting. A lot of the core combat feels similar to the original game, but the game’s camera angles should be reworked to avoid alienating returning fans.
Hopefully, Lollipop Chainsaw 2: Back2Back only gets better before its launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5.
