The League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds) Play-Ins began yesterday and saw two very dramatic best-of-five series.
Karmine Corp defeated Cloud9 in a five-game thriller as the historic rivalry between Europe and North America continued.
While LCP team MVK Esports crushed Brazil’s FURIA in a brutal 3-0 stomp that most did not predict.
And records were broken thanks to MVK’s Võ ‘Chika’ Lê Nhân while KC vs C9 was the first NA vs EU match to go to five games
Chika’s Kog’Maw Sets LoL Worlds Record during Play-Ins
While Lương ‘Gury’ Hải Long’s Lee Sin stole the headlines, Chika also had a monstrous game on Kog’Maw mid.
In LoL’s top leagues, Kog’Maw was only played in the mid lane once this year by Heo ‘ShowMaker’ Su back in May.
Yet, Chika made the pick look broken, finishing the game 7/2/10 with 21 stacks on his Mejais.
And through doing so, Chika broke the record for the highest average damage per minute by a midlaner at Worlds with 1554 DPM.
This puts Chika second in the overall Worlds DPM records, with only former Cloud9 ADC Zachary ‘Sneaky’ Scuderi besting him.

What makes Chika’s record even more impressive is the fact that he recorded that DPM in just 27 minutes.
The rest of the top 10 were from 47 minutes+, inflating the numbers with players being full build for longer.
Cloud9 vs KCorp Was LoL Worlds First
Unbelievably, in over 15 years of LoL esports history, KC vs C9 is believed to have been the first-ever LCS vs LEC match that went to five games.
Because of tournament formats, best-of-fives usually didn’t happen until later in the tournament, and both NA and EU teams rarely get that far.
KC vs C9 also managed to break into the top 10 for longest Worlds best-of-fives ever, clocking in at over 177 minutes total.
