沙特财团主导的EA私有化完成后,此轮裁员与BioWare关停反映出资源正向体育游戏及指定新作倾斜。
Electronic Arts is cutting around 400 jobs in a move that will affect about 3% of its global workforce.
Variety and Bloomberg appears to have been first to report the news. There was no specific mention of its mobile teams in an internal memo obtained by both outlets, which confirmed that storied RPG developer BioWare would close as part of the cuts, meaning its Edmonton, Canada office will be shuttered.
It is also halting work on a new Sims game, codenamed Project Lotus, and refocusing efforts on a Sims title dubbed Project Evergreen. The Skate team will also be hit by the cuts.
Both Variety and Bloomberg also include detail on investments in new projects incoming at the soon-to-be-Saudi-owned firm. These include what is likely Star Wars: Battlefront 3, an Iron Man game and a new title in the Star Wars Jedi series.
EA also said in the note sent to all internal staff that it would be further investing in its Apex Legends franchise and sports games like EA FC and Madden.
The $55bn deal to take EA private under the ownership of a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners was completed in August.
The deal triggered a windfall for EA’s top executives, whose vested and unvested stock converts to cash on completion. Per a November 2025 SEC filing, CEO Andrew Wilson stood to receive an estimated $105.9m, with EA Entertainment & Technology president Laura Miele ($44.4m), CFO Stuart Canfield ($33.4m), and chief people officer Mala Singh and chief legal officer Jacob Schatz (each $24.6m) also cashing out significant sums.
One EA mobile insider we spoke to about the deal argued that freedom from quarterly earnings pressure could let EA finally invest properly in mobile user acquisition, pointing to PIF’s other mobile holding, Scopely, as a template.
Savvy Games Group’s backing let Scopely spend big on UA (reportedly over $1bn marketing Monopoly Go alone) and later acquire Niantic’s game portfolio for $3.5bn. EA Mobile’s own VP and group general manager, Jose “Pepe” Cantos, previously spent three years at Scopely working alongside its founders.
EA remains headquartered in Redwood City, with Andrew Wilson continuing as CEO. In its fiscal year 2026, EA posted GAAP net revenue of approximately $7.5bn.
