Sources claim GTA 6 will come to PC much sooner than expected
A new report suggests that Grand Theft Auto VI could arrive on PC far sooner than expected, with a release window only a few months behind the console launch.
GamesBeat claims that Rockstar is currently targeting the first quarter of 2027 for the PC version, citing four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans. If that timeline holds, it would be a major shift from Rockstar’s usual approach. GTA V took more than a year and a half to reach PC, and even Red Dead Redemption 2 had a noticeable delay between console and PC.
The report argues that Rockstar has strong incentives to accelerate the PC version this time. GTA VI’s budget is rumoured to be enormous, and PC represents a sizeable audience expansion. There’s also the role‑playing community to consider. Rockstar acquired Cfx.re last year, the team behind FiveM, and has hinted at deeper user‑generated content tools for GTA VI. Those systems fundamentally rely on PC, so a shorter gap would make sense if Rockstar wants that ecosystem active sooner rather than later.
Even so, there are reasons to be cautious. Rockstar has said very little about the next iteration of GTA Online, and historically, online development has taken priority before PC ports. It’s also unclear how far along the PC version is, and Rockstar is known for shifting timelines late in development. That said, the studio is huge now, with thousands of staff working across GTA VI, so parallel development is entirely plausible.
There’s also a market argument. Console growth has slowed, hardware prices have climbed, and PC remains the platform where long‑tail engagement thrives. A faster PC release would be a strategic move in 2027, but so far, Rockstar and Take-Two remain quiet about their official plans for PC support, and GTA Online.
KitGuru Says: A shorter wait for PC would be great, but until Rockstar confirms anything, this sits firmly in the “possible but unproven” category.
