Terraria 万花筒标签伤害动画导致 fps 暴跌

Kaleidoscope tag effect kills fps

Hello, this might not necessarily be a bug, but for some reason Kaleidoscope single handedly can bring my fps down from 120 to 10. The cause seems to be the tag damage animation.
I usually play on white lighting and have 90-120 fps, depending on how many projectiles etc. are active, even heavier stuff light EoL particles combined with other projectiles are fine. But the Kaleidoscope's tag damage animation is just copium, reducing whatever fps I had to 10 and below.
Before I'm being asked, yes I'm talking about Vanilla.
Perhaps the rendering code of this specific weapon's tag damage animation could be revisited, or respect certain graphics quality settings more?

The kaleidoscope tag causes particles and dust to appear every time you hit an affected enemy, which easily creates thousands of dust instances on a group of enemies. I believe there already is an older report of the same thing.

So is this ever going to be fixed? Like, at least for lower graphics settings. I upgraded to a high end system a while ago and this is still an issue in artificial scenarios just like in 1.4.4.9.

Now yes I did say artificial scenario, but I'd imagine this still affects players on bad specs while just using the item normally on a single enemy, as that's what happened to me in the past as indicated in my OP.
(Obviously that is no longer the case on a single enemy for me now, but that doesn't mean the issue is fixed).

Now I understand that this probably doesn't affect that many players - but it's still potentially a ton of fps lost for no reason - especially the fact that graphics settings just don't seem to do anything here, and they clearly should.

This is just an issue with the lack of dust particle limits. Not much you can do to optimise it except for turning down your settings or using a mod to help. To be fair, most people aren't spamming bunched up destroyer segments with the kaleidoscope, lol.

turning down your settings

Again, the whole point I'm trying to make is that settings don't do :red: here.

Yeah... but you don't need destroyer for this if you have low specs. Literally just using it on a single target boss on my old system halved my fps.

Right, I didn't read properly

Unfortunately having low specs means having low specs - things start to chug if you don't have capable hardware.

Yeah, the visuals from Kaleidoscope are only visuals at the end of the day, they don't even serve to indicate much. There should definitely be a way to turn them down.

There's a difference between performance being bad because the hardware hits the limit when optimized and throwing free fps out the window.
Kaleidoscope animation is sadly the latter, Re-Logic could quite easily decide to just not spawn a stupid number of dust particles (at least on low quality settings).
