Insider claims rumoured Switch 2 port of Starfield may have been “shelved”
Owing to its much improved hardware, we’ve seen a great deal of 3rd-party game developers/publishers announce and release ports of last and current-gen games to the Switch 2 – often providing a more than acceptable final result on the handheld-hybrid. That said, for one reason or another, some titles have proven to be more difficult than others to port. Such was the case with Borderlands 4, and now so too does it appear to be the case with Bethesda’s Starfield, as insiders have claimed that the heavily rumoured port may have “been shelved.”
In response to one user on Twitter who asked the insider for “updates on Starfield” coming to the Switch 2, known leaker NateTheHate (also known as NateDrake) claimed that the heavily-rumoured though never officially announced port has seemingly been cancelled, writing:
“Starfield port for Switch 2 hit lots of obstacles and development hurdles. I don't know if it has been shelved or not at present; but it wouldn't surprise me.”
As mentioned, a Switch 2 port of Starfield was never technically officially announced. That said, reports from as far back as January of 2025 indicated that work was being done on such a project. NateTheHate himself later suggested that the port was being planned for a 2026 release alongside the PS5 version.
Perhaps the biggest evidence that such a port was in the works came from the Taiwanese Game Rating Board, in which Starfield was officially listed back in April – all-but confirming that it was real at one point.
That’s not to say that Starfield won’t ever come to the Switch, but given the fact that the game is generally agreed as being one of Bethesda Game Studios’ weakest projects, they may have decided that the juice ultimately wasn’t worth the squeeze.
