GAME IS ALSO AVAILABLE ON PC GAMEPASS!
Command a strike force of marines, mercenaries, and criminals in a distant system, cut off from the Core Worlds. At the lawless frontier, the Wayback system is controlled by pirate warlords, questionable corporations, and fractured planetary governments who struggle for a new order. Though you initially lead your strike force of marines from aboard the strike cruiser TCRN Impetus, you'll quickly need to unite the disparate locals under your leadership to defeat an unknown threat. Fielding tanks, walkers, and infantry squads with a massive selection of equipment to choose from, you'll train your troops, plan out operations, and engage in deadly tactical battles.
Battles in MENACE are deadly affairs – under the hail of bullets, plasma bolts, and missile fire, you will face off against enemies that are well prepared, and ruthless. Expect to permanently lose squad leaders and their squads, and prepare to adapt to constantly evolving situations on the battlefield. Pacifying an entire system doesn't come without a few risks, and superior tactical prowess will determine the victor.
The strike cruiser TCRN Impetus acts as your base of operations, not only ferrying you between missions, but providing both orbital support and a place for much needed R&R. Invest in upgrading and customizing your mobile HQ to best synergize with your approach on the battlefield, seeking out opportunities among local allies to gain the upper hand for the task ahead of you.
With all communications cut off, you're at the top of the chain of command, and your team of marines, mercenaries, and criminals turn to you for answers. Any single operation is not limited to one battlefield, instead taking you on branching paths of multiple missions each, asking you to engage in a series of battles across entire worlds. Make strategic decisions as you progress through an operation, choosing between the missions available to you – will you first take out the enemy air defenses that keep you from landing tanks? Or will you press directly into the enemy to rescue a group of hostages and gain the trust of the locals? Proceed mission by mission to complete the operation, and ultimately, further your grand campaign, but beware – every decision has serious consequences, not just for the operation at hand, but the entire system itself.
i personally LOVE Battle Brothers and I tried the demo for this
it is very very different to BB and is doing some stuff I haven't really seen in other games like this
HEAVILY excited to give this a try later in EA/Release

This is a really good game, try it out.
Battle Brothers is GREAT. Will play this!
Was not aware of that!
i have no idea why they didn't include this in the drop earlier this week since it looks _incredible_
Battle Brothers was one of my biggest time sinks for a while, despite being absolutely hopeless at it. Had no idea this was on GP, great news.

Say no more, insta bought
I absolutely love Battle Brothers and kept my eye on this since it was announced, completely forgot it was releasing in Early Access already. Will try to pick this up later in the year at some point, once I can get a grip on finances.

The demo was really good. I look forward to playing this.

I usually don't buy EA releases, but I will make an exception with this one.
Now this is one I have been waiting for

very very different game to Battle Brothers, damn
the mechanics really need some getting used to, especially being basically able to always shoot at or be shot at even past buildings and such
cover is super important!
the game definitely has that Battle Brothers feeling to it where all goes well and then BAM someone dies haha
This looks quite good. I will have to add it to my wishlist.
Game is extremely good. Suppression is king
is this true

is this true
it's a turn based game
but outside of that I wouldn't say they are very similar
this isn't a "story game" at all for example
Excited to check this out but might wait for 1.0 to really sink my teeth in. Between this, Xenonauts 2, and Every Day We Fight I have plenty of EA tactics games that I'm sitting on for 1.0 launches

It's more X-COM/Battletech/Mount and Blade, one of those sandbox RPGs where you're bringing up an army in a procedural-ish world/campaign

Grabbed shotguns for one of my squads and holy shit they are just absolutely ripping through the bugs now
How's it run and control on Steam Deck?

oh no you really don't start with any of that gear from the demo huh
truly out here naked
God, I got destroyed in the first mission 3 times already. I need to play more defensively.
Loving this!
Early Access?
Im interested but wont bite until is finished.
Ive always waited for games to go 1.0 but Im sorely tempted. Ive played more hours of Battle Brothers than anything else I have a record of and been eyeing this since it was announced.
Anyone playing it, how close to finished does it all feel? Ive seen some gameplay and it looks pretty complete but its hard to say without sitting and watching someone play for hours, which I dont have time for.
I just found out this is done by a few people around the corner to where I live. Wow.

Seems complete to me. The demo had a lot of higher tier gear and you start with basically nothing, so there's definitely a progression curve in there. Seems like there might be some sort of story/campaign capstone coming down the line (probably similar to the big horde that shows up at the end of a Battle Brothers campaign), but I'd wager that everything getting up to that point is 'full game' territory. The stuff other than the capstone that's coming sounds like additional weapons/equipment/gear/squad leaders/text events and maybe a mission type or two that they probably haven't hammered the bugs out of yet.

from the store page:
"We plan for the full version of MENACE to have additional content influenced by community feedback during the Early Access period. We plan to include additional planets and biomes alongside additional mission types, squad leaders, and equipment. Players will also be able to explore additional events and character interactions over the course of a campaign, and experience the full story of MENACE."

Great, thanks for the info. Even if its sounds like a pretty full experience I'm going to sit back down for a bit. Excited as I am to play it I think I'll appreciate it all the more with the extra polish and content when its fully done.

So, deploying your units is actually a MASSIVE buff to them and doesn't just enable them to use Special Weapons
The game doesn't properly tell you this when you just hover over the "deploy" button but when your unit is deployed, check on the left side by the buff icons
if you hover over the deploy buff icon you can see you get accuracy bonus, damage resist, etc...
it's SO important

Yeah, the '-10 AP to deploy/-2AP per movement tile' on some of the higher AP SLs has actually maybe been my MVP skill so far. Without the real heavy armor that you started with in the demo, the mobility and flexibility has been super important early on.

i am really liking this so far, it definitely feels insanely different to battle brothers while also retaining a lot of what i loved about it
the one thing I really miss from BB though is the presentation of your traveling and taking on missions and such
it feels extremely sterile in this which I hope is just an EA factor so far

Got an infantry laser gun, it's nuts, and I think it has the best sounds of any gun like it ever
OP

been experimenting around more with the different weapons
i was initially a bit confused why i would ever use anything but the "Crowbar" Battle Rifle, seeing how it has big range and damage and such
Turns out things like fire rate are actually insanely important!
I definitely think the most important thing you want to get ASAP for your squads are new guns. they make a massive difference
I also got a tripod mounted grenade launcher which is just tearing through things when I set it up
The SL who is carrying it is set up as a "weapons team" SL basically and has tons of ammo
I also have been playing around more with a vehicle and using it as mobile cover
it's super fun and very strong! the first thing I bought for it was additional ammo which massively increases its impact on your fights
How it play on a handheld, the text it's to small?
OP

Sure feel I am getting my money's worth out of it!
I started over 2 times after an operation or two and am now properly going for it
just playing on normal for now though to learn
Smoke grenades are OP in this. To the point I expect them to get nerfed.

they are exceptionally strong, I agree!
i wonder how they would change them though
lower the duration?
Really fun and addictive so far, can't wait to see how they flesh out the strategic layer. The troop carrier stuff with your starting vehicle is really enjoyable to mess with.

the amount of different vehicles and equipment is already pretty amazing
you can really use and outfit what you want for any situation
Really enjoying this. I like how it's Jagged Alliance heroes + squads around them, basically. I also like how combat flows, how deadly it can be. Great thing.

Yeah!
Especially since all the maps are randomly made
The speed at which it all happens is crazy

Also wanted to know, say "playable " the steam page for Steamdeck .

holy shit the third faction, Rogue Army doesn't fuck around!
I guess that's where proper bigger military items come into play!
Im sure some have noticed this already but for at least some of the round based control objectives, the more people in the zone, the faster control ticks up. Which makes it so you're likely not gonna wanna bother splitting up like I was doing early on (which usually meant one side was getting swarmed and the other barely meeting resistance).
