Cyberpunk 2077 is set to get a brand new update this week, and CD PROJEKT RED has teased what the content drop will entail.

Four years after the release of the first series of the Netflix exclusive TV series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, CD PROJEKT RED and Japanese animation studio TRIGGER have introduced another story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. The standalone series takes viewers to the heart of the chaos and violence of Night City.

In the past, the developers have stated that previous patches were the final major updates, so new content is always a pleasant surprise. Now, the anime series is about to collide with the Cyberpunk 2077 video game to bring a whole host of new content, including a fresh playstyle, body modifications, and more additions.

While you prepare a new save file and hope minimal damage is done to your mods, let’s dive into what we know so far about what’s to come in Cyberpunk Update 2.5.

Cyberpunk Update 2.5 Brings More Firepower to Night City

Artwork for Cyberpunk Update 2.5 was shared on official Cyberpunk channels, including X. On the cover of the artwork is Weak Kingsley from Cyberpunk Edgerunners, appearing wearing his red glasses and signature red coat. He stands back-to-back with V, who is firing dual-wield pistols.

CD Projekt RED credits the artists behind the promotional art by giving “a huge thank you to Taisei Uchida (Original Art), Yukiko Kakita (Ink & Paint Check), and Yuichiro Tozawa (Special Effects) for their contributions to the Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) official illustration.”

Kingsley used to be equipped with a lot of cybernetic body modifications, and is widely considered to be one of the living legends of Night City. Once at the top of his game in Night City, Kingsley lost all his glory and the majority of his cyberware along the way.

The anime series is about to collide with the Cyberpunk 2077 video game to bring a whole host of new content, including a fresh playstyle, body modifications, and more additions.

To break down the update, CD Projekt RED has announced a REDstreams broadcast taking place on October 21 at 5pm CEST. This will dive into the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 update, such as cyberware customization, a new dual-wielding playstyle, and more that will arrive as part of the patch.

The stream will be shown live on the CDPROJEKTRED Twitch and the CYBERPUNKGAME YouTube channel. However, we will have to wait for the rollout of the patch notes to learn the full extent of the update.

Cyberpunk Update 2.5 will arrive on October 22 and will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 release to follow later. It’s a free update, meaning players who already own the game won’t need to purchase a separate expansion to take the new content for a spin.

A Cyberpunk 2077 movie is in the works at Paramount Pictures, and CD Projekt RED has already stated that it doesn’t want the film to be an adaptation of the game. This is because the developers want to expand the story of Night City to grow Cyberpunk 2077 and its universe.

The popularity of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an example of just that, and now the TV series is being explicitly brought into the game; it’s the perfect time for series fans to jump in and play, and vice versa.
