《Crimson Desert》Modder ByJunter 放弃双人 Co-op Mod,但称更先进项目即将推出
Crimson Desert Modder ByJunter Abandons 2-Player Co-Op Mod, But Says A Far More Advanced Project Is Coming Soon
Although Crimson Desert is a single-player experience, the open-world action-adventure game developed by Pearl Abyss has plenty of mechanics that would work great in a multiplayer experience, small remnants of when the game was supposed to be an MMO. While the Korean studio suggested that multiplayer could come in the future, a dedicated developer released an impressive multiplayer mod whose current alpha state is only the beginning.
"Alpha two-player co-op for Crimson Desert: each player keeps their own save and sees the other in their world — movement, combat, horse, gear, rope, minimap — with a shared enemy zone led by the host. Steam friends only," the official description of the mod developed by ByJunter reads on Nexus Mods.
While the mod is a proof of concept that is no longer being developed, it does a lot of things right, including syncing the other player's character, time of day, and sharing enemies, although only hostile enemies. Sadly, quests, items, progression, bosses, and mounted enemies are not shared, which highlights why the modder considers this only a proof of concept.
Despite the mod no longer being in development, there's plenty of reason to be excited for the future of multiplayer in Crimson Desert ahead of its possible implementation by Pearl Abyss. "Heads up: someone else is working on a similar project and will be releasing a much more advanced co-op mod soon. So don't be too bummed out by how limited this one is, better things are on the way," ByJunter confirmed. There's no public information about this new project, but the modder confirmed they're in talks with the developers of the improved mod, so they have concrete proof that something more advanced is indeed in the works.
In addition, ByJunter released the source code for their multiplayer mod for anyone wishing to improve it. It can be found on GitHub.
Looking at how much a very similar open-world game, CAPCOM's Dragon's Dogma 2, is enhanced by its impressive multiplayer mod, there's no denying that Crimson Desert will benefit even more from it, considering how much more varied its gameplay is. And with a lot of new additions coming later this month with the Charting the Unknown expansion, the game developed by Pearl Abyss is set to remain a fixture for all those who have embraced the game despite the lukewarm launch reviews I did not agree with back in March.
