Back in September, Microsoft announced that it would be introducing some new and rather harsh restrictions to its Xbox Cloud streaming service, confirming that Game Pass subscribers would only be allotted 15 hours of streaming per month (going as low as just 5 hours for those on the Essential tier). Announcing simultaneously that players would be able to purchase packages of ‘cloud playtime hours’ separately, the console maker has now unveiled its ‘introductory’ prices.

Taking to the Xbox Wire blog, ‘Team XBOX’ followed up on their announcement from last month in which they confirmed that cloud streaming would no longer be unlimited for Game Pass members, with subscribers instead being “able to purchase additional cloud playtime through the XBOX Store.”

Though pricing for these additional streaming hours have yet to be shared, Microsoft has now explained how the service will work for non-Game Pass members, writing:

“Starting today, XBOX Insiders can try a new way to stream games by purchasing cloud playtime without a Game Pass subscription. This preview gives XBOX Insiders who do not have an active Game Pass subscription an early look at the new option before it rolls out more broadly in November.”

Currently being described as “introductory launch pricing”, the Cloud playtime packs available for purchase are as follows:

  • 10hrs for $3.99
  • 25hrs for $7.99
  • 50hrs for $11.99

As mentioned, these prices are for non-Game Pass members, meaning you’ll only be able to stream games already available in your digital Xbox library (as well as select free-to-play titles). That being said, Microsoft is promising that these Cloud playtime packs will offer “an ad-free cloud gaming experience, including shorter wait times, high-quality streaming, and playtime that remains available until it’s used.”

Of course, these prices are subject to change, with the revamped service said to be officially going live some time next month. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how much Microsoft winds up charging Game Pass subscribers for their additional cloud streaming hours.
