George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He has also previously written for RPG Site, WhatCulture, and PlayStation Lifestyle.

George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends.

Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4.

Dispatch is celebrating its first anniversary with some free new modes (for Deluxe Edition owners, at least), merchandise, a mobile port, and even a concert.

365 days ago, AdHoc Studios launched Dispatch and introduced us to the world of Mecha Man, Blonde Blazer, Invisigal, and the endless begging for Malevola and Waterboy romances. In that year, Dispatch has gone from an episodic indie that looked like it had potential to a breakout hit that fans are begging to see more of.

While some fans were hoping that the occasion would be marked with some kind of reveal for Dispatch’s second season, AdHoc has instead decided to celebrate by building on the original game with some new anniversary-style modes, the announcement of a new port, and a bunch of new merchandise.

Dispatch Is Getting A Commentary And Storyboard Mode

And It’s Even Free For Digital Deluxe Owners

Everything coming to Dispatch for its one-year anniversary.

The biggest announcement for the one-year anniversary celebrations is the addition of new Commentary and Storyboard modes, which are available now and free for Deluxe Edition owners. Commentary Mode adds 16 hours of commentary from developers and members of the cast, including Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, and Erin Yvette.

Storyboard Mode lets you play through all of Dispatch with its, you guessed it, storyboard animatics. It can also be combined with the Commentary mode, essentially giving you yet another excuse to replay the whole game. Even if it’s not the long-requested endless mode, it’s a nice addition.

And if that wasn’t enough, AdHoc also announced that Dispatch will be coming to mobile on Android and iOS from December 9. The whole base game is included and rebuilt for “touch and vertical play”, and players will be able to access the first four episodes for free at launch before unlocking the full release for $19.99.

The one-year anniversary merch for Dispatch.

Outside of Dispatch proper, a new anniversary merch collection including shorts and hoodies is now available to purchase, featuring artwork from Dispatch art director Derek Stratton. The deluxe edition comics are being turned into a full physical set, and Lost in Cult is putting together a hefty Dispatch: Design Works book.

The final announcement for the anniversary is an extremely limited concert in Los Angeles called Dispatch: Night Shift Presents the Soundtrack Live. The concert will take place on December 3 and features the game’s composer alongside THOT SQUAD, Bershy, Primer, Caroline Kingsbury, and Fartbarf.

While I’m sure that some fans aren’t going to be happy that we still don’t know what’s next for Dispatch and that we don’t have endless mode just yet, it’s still a nice set of anniversary celebrations. If anything, it shows that AdHoc is nowhere close to being done with Dispatch, which bodes very well for seeing much more of it.
