《恶魔城：贝尔蒙特之咒》开发者刻意将角色设计性感，完全预料到粉丝同人图

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse devs said making its characters hot was a deliberate choice, and fans have already responded with artwork that has caught the team’s attention.

Speaking to Fall Damage, Lead Designer Sandro Bordier and Marketing Director Berenger Dupre discussed the reception to the game’s character designs, including the particularly enthusiastic response to series legend, Trevor Belmont.

While the team wanted to create designs that would please fans, Dupre admitted they hadn’t anticipated just how popular Trevor’s new look would become, even suggesting there should be a Game Awards category for “hot dads.”

Castlevania devs have already seen “horny” fan art

Following a question from a fan that said there would be a “tsunami of horny fan art,” Bordier confirmed the developers had already encountered some eye-catching creations.

“Oh, it has started, it has started already. Like, man, have we seen some things,” the dev joked. The response follows a conscious decision from Evil Empire, with Bordier explaining that the characters’ appeal was something the team had actively worked toward.

“Yes, like we know some characters are hot. It’s a choice, actually. Like it’s a vibe. We’re pretty proud of it,” he continued. “Honestly, like, we were super happy with all the fan reactions regarding the characters that were revealed. Like we really put a lot of love from the team to like design them in a way that would please fans.”

While Bordier added that the studio was “super happy” with the response to both the designs and the voice actor reveal, it’s Castlevania legend Trevor Belmont’s rugged new look that has made a particularly strong impression amongst fans.

“Like Trevor especially, we didn’t realise that it would be so well received,” Dupre said, before joking that: “there should be a Game Awards for hot dads.”

While the character designs have been well received, the devs have revealed that working on such a legendary series and its iconic cast of characters can be tricky.

“It’s always fun to see the fan art because we know how important and dear these characters are to the fans. And we are trying to make some new, fresh stories with them, so it’s always quite stressful, and for now the reception is very, very emotional,” added Dupre.
