Fortnite is finally set to return to iOS in Australia after another major legal win for Epic Games. The Australian Federal Court has ruled against Apple over its App Store practices, opening the door for more competition and giving developers greater freedom over app distribution and payments.
Fortnite’s Australian iOS return is finally back on track
This is another important step in Fortnite’s long-running battle with Apple. The game was removed from the App Store in 2020 after Epic introduced its own payment system, leading to a lengthy legal fight over Apple’s control of iOS apps and in-app purchases.
Big news: Fortnite is coming back to the App Store in Australia tomorrow!
Today the Australia Federal Court told Apple to open up iOS after finding they violated competition law. Here’s what’s changing in Australia in March 2027:

• iOS will be open to third party app stores
•…
Fortnite was previously expected to return to iOS in Australia in August 2025, following an earlier legal victory for Epic. However, that comeback did not happen as planned, leaving Australian iPhone users waiting even longer to play the game even though global availability happened a year later.
Now, the latest court ruling has opened the door again. Under the changes outlined for Australia, third-party app stores will be allowed on iOS, developers will be able to distribute apps directly, and they will have more freedom to use alternative payment systems. Apple will also be restricted from blocking links that direct users outside apps to make purchases.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney celebrated the decision on X, calling the new antitrust remedies a “huge victory for consumers and developers.”

The changes are scheduled to take effect in March 2027, so the wider changes to iOS as listed will take time to arrive. However, Epic says Fortnite’s Australian return is scheduled for tomorrow, alongside its own mobile store coming soon.
For Australian players who have been waiting years to play Fortnite on their iPhones, you’ll just need to wait a few hours before the game is available.
