Amidst last month’s AI-assisted decompilation and recompilation craze, Xbox has launched a new experimental division called Xbox Labs. Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma has taken an interested in this due to the recent explosion of games being decompiled, rebuilt, ported and remixed using AI-assisted development tools.
In an official Xbox Wire post, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said Microsoft has been watching games get rapidly rebuilt to run on hardware they were never designed for. She specifically pointed to Windows games being translated for Apple Silicon, titles being ported directly into browsers through WebAssembly and WebGPU, and even major games being “remixed into the source code of another.” She wants Xbox to have a piece of that pie before anyone else.
