As teased previously, Sega has unloaded all of the details coming in Year Two of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. True to its name, there are more crossovers coming from unlikely brands.
Season Pass Two, the paid season pass, are quite the mix of IPs. We’ve seen Godzilla and Neon Genesis Evangelion already, but joining the two packs are four more.
Season Pass Two Pack #3 is the Virtual Sanrio Puroland. This features Hello Kitty and the greater Sanrio cast off characters. This pack is interesting in the restriction it has: the Machine Parts in this pack can’t be customised, and the included track doesn’t have a Mirror Mode version where it’s laterally inverted.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Season Pass Two Pack #3 Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack Details:
- Two racers: Hello Kitty and Kuromi
- Two Machines: Hello Kitty Apple Kart and Kuromi Charming Cruiser
- One track: Virtual Sanrio Puroland (not available in Mirror Mode)
- Release window: April-August 2027
Season Pass Two Pack #4 is a throwback to Sega arcades. The Segaland Pack adds a new track and three new machines. Arcade machines, actually, with functional wheels. For those that had intrusive thoughts thinking that these arcade cabinets be drivable, or love to see Ryo driving the Out Run arcade machine seen in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed, this pack is for you.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Season Pass Two Pack #4 Segaland Pack Details:
- Three Machines: Super Megalo (featuring Virtua Fighter), After Burner, Out Run
- One Track: Segaland
- Release Window: April-August 2027
The two other packs, the Midgar Pack featuring the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, and the Reload Revival Royal Pack featuring Persona 3 Reload, Persona 4 Revival and Persona 5 Royal, have no exact details outside of the release window being around September-December 2027.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year Two Free DLC
Sega will still be doling out free DLC for Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. We’ve seen the bewitching witch Bayonetta revealed, and at least two more freebies are coming.
Aigis, from Persona 3 Reload, will be joining the CrossWorlds with her machine, Palladion Dressy (Acceleration), in reference to her Persona. Joker from Persona 5 is already Free DLC, so it will be interesting to see what the Reload Revival Royal Pack will contain.
The other free DLC is of McLaren Racing. Sega is partnered with the papaya-clad (not orange) racing team that currently competes in F1, IndyCar and is set to join the World Endurance Championship soon. The Speed-type McLaren Racing Machine vaguely shares livery design of the car that won the 2025 Constructors’ Championship in F1.
However, the partnership doesn’t include deals with the drivers, one of them is the World Champion in the same year. Instead of current #1 driver Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri, we’re getting Sonic in a McLaren fire suit as a driver, specifically referred as Sonic (McLaren Racing). It should be noted that Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed did feature a real race car driver.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year Two New Features And Changes
On top of all that new content, paid and free, the base game of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is also getting updated with new features and some changes.
Duel Mode, a brand-new game mode, will be added when Year Two starts on November 4. This is a one-one-one race, and both players can see each other’s items and gadget loadout. The mode is available online and offline, against other players or CPU rivals. This mode also features Duel Boost, which charges over time and also when players use items. It also serves as a catch-up mechanic, as it fills up faster for the racer trailing behind.
The Gadgets system gets another new tier. Reach the Grand Master Plate to unlock the seventh Super slot. Any one-slot gadget is amplified when slotted in there.
DLC characters can now populate the grid as CPU opponents with the Year Two update for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Free and premium DLC characters will now appear in Grand Prix and Race Park modes, adding more variety.
Lastly, Festivals in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year Two will now last for ten days instead of just the weekend (three days, more or less). Also, there will be re-runs of select Year One Festivals so there’s a chance to get some of the limited-time items that could only be earned through these limited-time events.
The really good kart racer is still running for at least another year, which is good to see.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Check out our original review of the game here.
