Modder Deezyyyy 用四季真实变化改造《巫师3》重制版，积雪堆积且 21 种野花绽放

Modder Deezyyyy has recently released The Living Continent, a massive visuals-and-immersion mod for CD Projekt RED's The Witcher 3 Remastered.

The mod introduces four real seasons to the award-winning open world action RPG. As the in-game days pass, trees leaf out, turn, and fall bare, each species on its own timing, while 21 species of European meadow wildflowers bloom and fade in their own weeks. Autumn brings birch gold, beech amber, and oak copper, with fallen leaves gathering under the trees they came from. Each region also has its own climate, so Toussaint only sees a light dusting in winter, while Skellige and Kaer Morhen get the real thing, and the length of the day varies with the date. If game days feel too fast, seasons can instead follow the player's actual playtime, from 30 minutes to four hours each.

Winter is where The Living Continent mod really shines, based on the description. Snow builds up as it falls and melts slowly afterward; icicles grow along the eaves on cold, sunny days; puddles freeze; and fires melt the snow around them. Geralt and nearby NPCs leave boot prints that are carved into the game's depth buffer, so its own lighting and shadows fall into them. Villagers also swap into the game's own winter clothes (with over 3,100 combinations), shovel snow from their doorsteps, chop firewood, and warm their hands by the fires, while children throw snowballs. Quest characters are never touched, though.

The modder devoted the same level of effort to improving The Witcher 3's sky. At night, the mod draws 9,096 stars from the Yale Bright Star Catalog at their true positions, along with the Milky Way, northern lights, meteor showers on their real-world dates, lunar eclipses, and the occasional comet. Since the stars are rendered after the upscaler, DLSS never blurs them. By day, the latest update adds atmospheric optics like halos, sundogs, sun pillars, and crepuscular rays.

Rather than layering a filter over the finished image, everything is built inside The Witcher 3's own renderer, so it's lit, shaded, and shadowed by the game itself. Ray tracing and the recently implemented path tracing are supported, and the latest version optimized the mod's GPU workload by about a fifth.

The Living Continent requires the DirectX 12 version of the game (version 5.0 or newer) and ReShade 6.8 or newer with full add-on support, though no ReShade presets are actually needed. It has already reached version 1.4 less than a week after launch.

Notably, the author credits the mod as made with AI assistance, directed and tested in-game. AI assistance has become extremely common in modding, thanks to recent advancements in LLMs, allowing even non-coders to realize their concepts.
